Croc Cruise
View from the boat beautiful surroundings Cape Tribulation…
Don and I decided to take a day trip up to Cape Tribulation, north of Cairns. Our first stop was a cruise on the Daintree River looking for crocodiles in the wild. Truly amazing. We saw two big adult crocs and a wee one. The adults were massive about ten feet in length, the first one sat in the water with his nose poking out, we could see some of his body but he was mostly submersed. The boat was so close, I felt as if I could touch him, although, it probably wouldn‘t be the best idea. The second one was a smaller croc, about eighteen months old, hiding in the reeds and mangroves. They didn’t seem at all fazed by our presence, I don’t know if they are used to the cruises or whether they know who is boss…and it isn’t us. The third croc was the best, he was sitting basking in the sun with his mouth wide open flashing all his fierce teeth to us. We didn’t get as close to this monster just watched from a distance, but he was very impressive. The tour guide had a snake on board which he had

Massive Salt water Croc on the cruise caught in his chicken house, it was a type of python and was about 6 foot in length. We were lucky enough to watch him release it back into the wild. It was pretty cool to see this huge snake wrapping itself round the tour guide, preparing to constrict him and make him his dinner. I think this tour was the highlight of the trip, seeing these massive salt water crocs in the wild as well as a snake and in beautiful surroundings too. Brilliant!
The next stop was a board walk, our guide took us right into the rain forest, it was damp and humid and full of mozzies but it was really tropical and exciting. We didn’t see much wildlife there, mainly I think due to our loud mouthed guide, however we did get to see a blue tongued lizard which was pretty funky and plenty of insects. Some folks did attempt to eat the arse of a green ant, supposedly tasting of lemon and lime, but Don and I decided to give it a miss and wait for our lunch at Cape Trib.
Cape Tribulation was a beautiful place. We stopped to have lunch at
Lizard
Blue Tongue Lizard on our Rain Forest walk a pub, sat outside in the baking hot sun. The heat up in Cape Trib was insane. Don and I could hardly breath and all we wanted to do was dive in some water to cool off. After food, we went down to the sea. We had been warned not to go in the water due to Crocodiles, stingrays and stonefish (and I’m not talking about neighbours). It was a gorgeous beach which seemed to go on forever, with soft white sand and warm turquoise water. There are huge mountains and hills sitting just off the beach, beautiful landscape, we could not stop taking photographs. We were only there for about half an hour, then it was time to begin the journey back to Cairns, the day was hardly over though.
The first stop on the journey home was Mossman Gorge the perfect place for a swim, but we were limited to time so decided to go for a walk and get some more snapping with the cameras. The river was full of huge boulders , it really reminded me of the River Dart at home with people swimming and playing in the water. The water was a lot

Taken on the board Walk. clearer than the River Dart though and, of course a lot warmer! We took a walk up to a swing bridge and freaked out a bit, Don and I both being a bit rubbish with heights, but it was great for a view and we both got some fab pictures. Another hour on the bus and we arrived in Port Douglas. This is a place I have heard of a lot. Whenever someone mentions Cairns and North Queensland, you always hear the name of this small harbour town. It is full of coffee shops, bars and restaurants and lots of little hippy shops. The marina was lovely, we looked out across the water and could see the massive mountains towering over the ocean in the distance. Although it was quite hazy it was still very pretty, the sun had began to sink in the sky and the temperature had cooled. It was a lovely place to end our trip. Another really good day, although we were knackered by the time we got back to the hostel it was well worth it.
