oct 10 daily routine of esplanade walk, meditation, spruik, swim, esplanade bird watch with many birders sharing sightings, beer, shower, free food at rhino bar, read 'australian' at irish bar. financial news a disaster unfolding. i'm still liking cairns. the richness of the birdlife is extraordinary and the richness of the human followers of this birdlife equally extraordinary. today was pointed out the nest of the pied imperial pidgeon. yesterday 'got' lesser sand plover. one of the great things about being a newcomer to birding is that its easy to get a new bird. the old hands don't have many they haven't seen. the other day got red-necked avocet, a bird with a marvellously curved beak.
