Didgeridoo me
Mark learning how to play the Didgeridoo. August 20, 2007 Cairns2
This morning we actually slept in, till 9:30am. That is late for us since most tours and what not start around 8. It was a wonderfully lazy morning and after taking our time getting ready we met up with Aly, Andy, and Grace for brunch. They arrived last night and we went out for a nice dinner and then we did what any married couple would do after being together for 4 and a half weeks straight non-stop; we all split up. Aly and I went back to the hotel and crashed early while Andy and Mark went out for drinks. It was really nice to have the room to myself to read and watch a movie and Mark enjoyed being able to talk to another guy.
So this afternoon we decided that since the weather was warm, somebody up there was listening to my prayers, we would spend the day just relaxing at the hotel pool. We walked around Cairns a bit and even though it is on the water, there really aren’t any beaches. The town makes up for it by having swimming pools, “lagoons” on the Esplanade, which is the main road on the

For dinner, Aly had read about the Night Zoo and we decided to try it out. The Night Zoo was fabulous. We were picked up from the Hotel and taken to the Cairns Zoo where there was a BBQ and all you can drink bar set up. While we were eating dinner, there was a man playing the Didgeridoo and went around having guest try it. Mark and Grace both tried it and although not the best they did alright. After dinner there is a tour guide that takes you around the zoo that was only lit by our flashlights or torches as they call them here. The tour started with an owl, and other small animals. From there we made our way over to the Koalas. Again we were able to hang out a bit while we watched some of the males try to impress the lady koalas. Well, they don’t do much since they are such low energy animals; they make a noise that sounds almost like a pig grunting. I

so much fun! Also, please note, I photoshopped my eye. I am still in the process of figuring out how to make my body look like Jessica Simpsons. hung back with the Koalas since the next stop was the reptile house and they brought out some snakes. I hung back once I heard poisonous. After a brisk walk past the snakes we were up close and personal with the largest Crocodile I have ever seen. OMG (that’s oh my god for the non instant messaging peeps) The croc was humongous and was in the zoo after a police man and his on duty dog were walking on the beach one day when out came this massive croc and ate the dog. The police man shot the Croc in the left eye, but it didn’t do a thing. The zoo, after hearing how big the croc was, didn’t quite believe them on the size seeing as size is usually exaggerated and only brought a container big enough for a 4meter croc. The Croc had to serve time in the local jail until they could get a big enough container. Now that would have been the best cell mate for Paris Hilton if you ask me. Anyways, after a crocodile feeding we heard the call from a “swaggie” who had billy tea set up for us. The tea was horrible.

This wasn't the largest one here, but close. Scary!- Acutally it is the Australian version of American Beauty. We wandered to the tea destination and found Kangaroos everywhere! It was so much fun to be able to feed the Kangaroos. I felt bad though because the Kangaroos were rushed by the rest of the group. But it was pretty cool to be able to sit around a campfire with Kangaroos that come right up to you and eat out of your hand. A couple of times we found them drinking out of our tea cups. At the end of the night there was live entertainment and we learned songs and a dance or too. The night zoo was a good time and an interesting way to see the animals of the night (in a cage, I am such a chicken when it comes to unknown animals.)
Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be even better than today!!!
