Hi All.
Well we are due to leave Oz today, we have mixed feelings we have loved every minute of our time here, and are sad about leaving, but the one advantage (which keeps the smile on our faces) we have is that we are not going home just yet. We fly into Bali today, we were just noticing that we are approx half way through are little adventure, we can not believe we have 7 or so weeks to go. The only change to our itinerary is that we are slipping in a 3 day stop in Singapore after Bali, before we head into Thailand.
Well what about Cairns!
We stayed on the front road, which get called esplanade's out here, little hostel. Which was great, even give us tickets to free food on an evening at a local bar, with a bit of hesitation we checked it out, and too our surprise the food was not only eatable it was acutally quite nice.
So what did we get up too. We visited AJ Hackett which is a bunjy site as mentioned in last post. We arrived to be confronted with a platform high within
the rainforest, how high, well 50m high which looking up dosen't seem too bad, however, standing up there, let me tell you its VERY VERY high, and as previously stated in our little journal, I am a bit of scaried cat when it comes to anything higher than the pavement. So having arrived with the best will in the world to fling my self off this crazy thing, there was absoultly not a cat and hells chance in me even standing on the edge, even just climbing the stairs had my palms sweating. So bunjy was crossed off, call me a a big woose, big girl, what ever but it would have been far too traumatic and all though iam 100% sure i would have loved it once i had lept from the platform, getting mind over matter to jump off...my brain just says NO! You are not a bird you have two legs for walking and if God wanted you to fly through the air he would have given you wings!
However, before you cast your final verdict, although bunjy was not an option there is a slight less insane attraction called the Minjin Swing, which allows you
and the possiblity of two other people to be strapped in and hoisted 40m in the air, once there you have to pull a cord and this releases you...it takes less than 1 second to reach over 80km per hour and you fly down through the rain forest and back up again. So to my amazement Kel suggested we give that ago, fair enough I said. Strapped in together we were hosited up, now going up higher, and hihger and higher. 40m is high I can assure you. So here we are 40 m up in the rainforest, I (David) have been the task of pulling the cord, my co tarveller (Kelly) however, after all her bravery, begins to seriously poo her pants, highlighting that this kind of thing might not be in her makeup. So we are stranded up in the rainforest, a little cord keeping us there, and kel decides that maybe, just maybe she dosen't want to do this, talk about good timing, I'm pooing my self because of the height and all i want to do is get down, and kel wants to debate about whether she actually wants to particapate. Well a few minutes past
and my negoieting skills are not working too well, meanwhile a bemuzed worker below is wondering what the hell is going on. Kel finally decides that she wants down, Gently! so with head between her legs we are slowly hosited down, not what i had in mind for my adrenline pumping day. Once down the poor Guy did his best to reassure Kel, well his expertise was better than mine and few minutes later we were getting hoisted back up. Same ritual, me squirming at the height. Groundhog day.......again Kel was having none of it, (some might ask i should have just pulled the cord, and boy did that thought not enter my head at least a hundred times, but everytime my hand went near the cord, kel inexplicity grabbed me which obviously to a man who suffers from vertico is not a pleasent experience, plus don't think Kel would ever forgive me...). We were brought back down and Kelly removed from the swing, so I'm going solo...everthing else went sweet pulled the cord and now know what it would feel like if you were shot out of a gun, it was fast, and awesome.
OK with that out
the way, we decided to organise a day of the Great barrier reef-One of teh Great wonders of the world. What a day it was, we arrived to be usher on to a new boat, that spead across the waves-70 miles out to sea, causing Kel to suffer from sea sickness and myself not feeling to hot. We had 3 dives all in all and rather than rabit on i will leave the photos to do the talking.
Anyway take care all
Dave & Kel
