John - "Are you sure I can't jump out???"
So we spent the last couple of days in Bundaberg. We arrived at lunchtime and calculated that we could make it to the rum distillery in time for the last tour (and hopefully a few free samples!!) Well, we wern't disappointed, after an hour pretending to look interested in how rum was made (remember those boring school trips where you just wanted it to be over so that you and your mates could get back on the coach and scoff all the sweets you had bought?!?!?!) we made it to the bar and the free samples.

Not having had rum before we decided to give everything on offer a go - one slight problem was that we only got 2 free drinks each!! Not to worry - three rather hung over backpackers decided to forgo the offer of free booze (they must have been bad) and handed over there tickets. So we decided we don't really like rum but if its free it will do - and it certainly did us as we had only grabbed a pie to eat all day! We even ended up buying some - ummm did I mention we didn't really like the rum!!!! Hic,

Anyway we relaxed the following day and then got up nice and early to catch a plane to Lady Elliot Island, a rather idyllic island which is the southern most island on the great barrier reef. When I say we caught a plane don't think for a second it was a big thing - no it seated about 10 people and flew at 5000ft for the 20 minute journey. I(H) had to keep a tight hold of John who really wished he had bought his skydiving rig with him!! (it was the same plan I jump out of, a Cessna Caravan)

On the island we went snorkelling, walked round the entire island and got treated to a lovely buffet lunch. It was a wicked day and the island was amazing - we saw what we think was a reef shark, turtles, and whales. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best otherwise we would have been able to do more snorkelling. But still we have the Whitsundays to look forward to.
