South Brisbane Cemetery Today we got to join in a race around the Cemetery......
Photo clues were compiled previously. We get into teams on the day. Teams try and collect the most answers from the gravestones. Winners announced and then we eat!
We were given a page of photos and the instructions to find the headstones and fill in the blanked out information. The point of this all was to teach us about the importance of ancestors (though these weren't necessarily ours) how to collect information from Gravestones and of course to make it fun!! I actually had to leave half way thru the activities so missed out of a lot of it. However the Girls stayed and had a wonderful time.
Yes ... A wonderful time in a cemetery!! The eldest Miss was in the group that got the most correct. She was very happy to have found almost all of the graves from their photo list. Middle Miss was excited about her "find"! A Mary and Jesus inside a glass container. Very Special apparently! So after an hour or more of enjoying the cemetary there were tired and had earnt their rest
and lunch. We had yummy sausages in a park nearby. We sat on perfect green fluffy grass (a rarity in Brisbane due to the drought) under the Green Bridge at Dutton Park.
The quality of the photos did not turn out very well. I am not photographist... so not sure why but the colours were much more vivid their in person. Like the jacarandah was bright purple amongst the green... I think it might be due to the cloudy day? It also made a lot of the photos bright and reflective, not really the look I was going for, I was more trying the sombre mood... but it didn't work.
Well it was very quiet, we were the only people in the cemetary. It is a nice small compact cemetary very close to the city and surrounded by roads and the Brisbane River. It is a bit brown and leafy. Lots of debris on the grounds. I went for a walk by myself to take photos and I am all alone and I seriously hear a child say "Mummy" I had left my 4year old to walk back to the picnic on her own and I
really thought she may have got lost and was looking for me. Then I hear nothing else. A little creepy when you are in a cemetery! Well I finally make it back to the group and I said was she yelling out or anything and they all deny it, saying no nothing was yelled from here. My husbands eyes go wide and he said so you heard some child moaning in a grave yard.. Wha ha ha (evil laugh) well it turn out we think it was the 6 year old. She said she was with her group and found a headstone they had been looking for and was yelling out there them over hear and other words, so it was probably her.. well I will keep telling myself that anyway (!eek!)
We then spent the afternoon swimming at the Grandparents house. The baby jumped from the edge of the pool into daddy's waiting hands with very little prompting from us - Another go getter girl for our brood - Watch OUT!! Their pool is heated through black tubes on the roof of the house. Even though it was a cloudy day and I was worried the water
would be cold - IT was in fact VERY WARM... like a bath.... perfect way to spend a cloudy day... having a huge bath!!
