Lake McKenzie
Gorgeous tea tree lake! Since my last blog we've been camping on Fraser Island, living the highlife in Noosa and been frightened in our first big city for a long time, Brisbane!!
Fraser Island was so amazing!! Basically its a 3 day, 2 night self drive tour where 11 of you get given a 4x4 with camping gear and a box of food and are sent off to Fraser island which is a massive sand island off the coast of Aus! We'd met up with the lads again so we were all in the same group which was cool, then we had 4 other girls in our group who were all alright, apart from one Aussie girl who kept burping and farting the whole 3 days....nice!!! Anyway, we set off on the first day with me as the driver, it was so much fun driving over sand dunes, off roading it and nearly tipping the van up!! I got us stuck in sand after about an hour and all the lads had to dig us out and push us out of the sand! That afternoon we drove to Lake Mckenzie, its so beautiful. Its a tea tree lake so is really good for your
skin so we had a good old soak in there and just chilled out on the beach for a while! That night we arrived at our camp site quite late and had to put the tents up in the dark which was fun. I had the job of holding this tiny torch to try and light our camping spot up abit, this of course attracted all the moths, flys etc which i loved.......NOT!! That night we had abit of a party round our tents and some other people we know who were in other groups came to join us and we played a few drinking games, then passed out in our very uncomfortable tents!! The next couple of days were spent driving along this amazing beach, seeing a few more lakes, eating, drinking etc!! It was a great few days and probably one of the highlights of our Aussie experience so far!!
The day after Fraser Island me and Zo had our 2nd surf lesson. What a disaster that was!! We were really looking forward to it after our first lesson success but the currents and the waves were really strong so Vans getting stuck in sand!it was no
Typical sight on Fraser
Vans getting stuck in sand! way good for beginners! We were struggling to even make it out far enough to catch a wave because of the currents and when we did it was really hard to stand up beacuse of the waves!! Then I landed really badly on my back and had the surf board whack me in the head which was nice so i had to call it a day!! To top things off Zoe then comes out of the water looking really sick and she'd been stung by jelly fish so was in agony!! Needless to say we'd had enough by that time so we just sat and waitd for the lesson to end! We're looking forward to trying again but hopefully somewhere that doesn't have stingers!!
The following day we travelled down to Noosa where we were meeting Vanessa! It was so good to see her as we pulled up on our Greyhound bus and as we pulled up she looked like a scene from Pretty Woman with all of her shopping bags!! (As BA had lost her luggage!!) We went and checked into Dolphins Hostel which was abit of a dump but hey ho!! We just got ready and went
straight out for a bite to eat and ended up staying out for the night and all got pretty tipsy!! The following day we were all feeling abit worse for ware and decided to have a day chilling on the beach. Noosa is like a really nice holiday resort, unlike anywhere else we've been in Aus. It was more expensive and doesn't really cater for backpackers but it was nice to have a week of luxury, especially with Vanessa being out here with us. After chilling on the beach we went out that night for a bite to eat and then went back to our hostel for an early night. When we went in our room it was crawling with cockroaches, it was disgusting!! We actually didnt' want to stay there but had no choice so had a very restless night sleep!! The next day we checked into a really nice place though where we had our own house, it was luxury! The rest of the week was pretty much spent chilling by the pool and a couple more drunken nights! Vanessa's last day we were supposed to be going to Australia Zoo but I woke up
feeling really ill
so i literally had to stay in bed all day, i felt so bad on poor Vanessa!! Anyway, it was so good to see her and was really sad to see her go when we dropped her off at Brisbane Airport!!
The last few days have been spent in Brisbane. It was so strange turning up to a proper city! I haven't spent time in a city since Vietnam so its been a while! Me and Zo actualy struggled trying to cross the road as we've been used to seeing no cars on the streets over the past month!! Since being in Brisbane we've been to see an Aussie Rules Footy match, got drunk with the locals and went to the gayest club we've ever been too, went rock climbing and walked about 2000 miles!! (slight exageration) We've checked out most of the sights of brisbane including a beach in the middle of the city which was wierd! Theres not too much to do in Brisbane but its a nice city and we've enjoyed our time here but I'm definitely looking forward to getting out of the city again! God knows how I'm going to cope in Sydney!!
Anyway guys, thats about it for now I think.
Hope you're all good.......
Speak soon
