Im once again getting a little bit behind on the blog update! We're currently enjoying the scenery of Airlie Beach, the coast of the Whitsunday Islands and the beginning of the Great Barrier Reef!!! We've been keeping ourself busy so yet to come at the moment are Noosa, Rainbow Beach, Hervey Bay/Fraser Island and Town 1770.
Getting back to Brisbane though! After Surfer's Paradise it was safe to say that we were glad to be moving away from the Tenerife of Australia and back to the lights of the city. We were quite impressed with ourselves that on arrival we managed to get from the Transit Centre to a train and then walk for about ten minutes up some steep hill and into our hostel, all with our backpacks and the several other bags we seem to have aquired on our trip so far. Our Hostel seemed quite cool, the rooms were nice and there was a free decks night going on at the bar of the hostel so it seemed quite lively. We met up with our friends from Surf Camp and Sydney (Hello if your reading this!!!) and generally saw the sights of Brisbane. On our first
day we went to the Koala Sanctuary to finally see some Koalas. It was a nice day trip, the Koalas were really cute, they looked so laid back and chilled out it's no wonder they're one of OZ's symbols. The only other things to see are Southbank, which is just a nice area by the riverside, the botanical gardens, and the library. Now you might be wondering why we visited the library during our visit but it is a really cool building, and its right next to the Art Gallery. You can use the internet for free and it definately beats the delights of Birmingham Central Library by far! Added to those sites there are the obligatory shops you'd find in any city and various bars and clubs around the city.
After a few days in Brisbane we had originally arranged to move on to Noosa with everyone else, but by luck I think we found a job the day before we left. We carried on with a weekend vacation to Noosa, which was fun and as you might be able to see we got to go to a beach and see some really nice surrounding in the National
The Fake Beach
Aussies and their beaches! they cant get enough of them! Park coastal walk. We had our last night out with the group before we all went our own ways, a sad moment I think, but a fun night out! Then we returned to Brisbane for the prospect of working! Intially not the greatest feeling I will admit! It was meant to be for 2 weeks and it meant we would be able to avoid the backpacker pilgrimage to the fruit picking areas of Australia. All the job involved was setting up a new shop, and it was literally emptying boxes, pricing it and moving it all around the store. It was fairly exhausting but we were working with some Irish backpackers, who made the job a whole lot more entertaining! We were fuelled by several sweets, bit of music (if you can ignore the repeated store tune!) and got to work with some aussies which was a nice change from being surrounded by English people who are doing pretty much the same as you are. It also reminded me of working at home in the city which was surprisingly quite nice! After a few months of not doing too much when everyone else seems to be working hard at home,
The delights of Noosa
Another place with amazing beaches, feeling lucky we got to go there twice! it was nice to be earning a wage again. Unfortunately, due to our hard work it all ended a bit early for our liking and we only worked for a week.
On the bright side we did get to carry on our travels to Noosa and beyond! Coming soon........
ooo I forgot to add our little trip to Stradebroke Island on Easter Weekend! Well after a hard week working we thought we'd have a little day trip. To get to a beach from Brisbane though it did require an hours train journey, a bus to the ferry, a ferry and then another bus. We managed it right up to Stradbroke Island, however, without money we couldnt get on the bus. We thought these buses were regular so wondered off to get some money only to return and find out we had to wait over an hour till the next bus!!! The day trip was fun but we spent about an hour seeing the lovely sites of Stradbroke Island and then it was back to Brisbane!
Think thats enough now! Hope your all keeping yourselves well! xx
