Dessert - the best meal of the day? At any time of the day? Need I say more?
The low down on what is currently my favourite restaurant in Brisbane...... However this may be due to the fact that I rarely eat out at restaurants and I have been to this one four times in as many months, considering how many places there are to eat out here, that might be a bit of overkill... but oh well.
Freestyle Tout -
" A dessert cafe in the heart of the valley" The Emporium 1000 Ann St Fortitude Valley
or at 21 Nash St Paddington
www.freestyletout.com.au
I found this review online which made me blush at my Uncultured self.....I have been pronouncing the name wrong for 5 years since I went there the first time to the original Freestyle at Rosalie. Is it French? Spanish? Well I am not exactly good with other languages. Maybe I will suggest they put one of those "how to pronounce it" signs like some restaurants do for all us yobbo Aussies. It's not our fault really!? How can the consumer be to blame? What's up with having silent "T's"?
"First things first, it's Freestlye Tout, prounouced "too", not "towt", or "toot" or "trout". Despite having two popular outlets in the Valley and Rosalie, people still regularly get the name wrong. The word tout means "all" or "everything", and that's what Martin Duncan's Emporium-based venture aims to offer - a little bit of everything. Ultra cool and casual, this free-form dining space has a real sweet tooth. Surrounded by glass and saturated with sunlight, the spacious, airy room doubles as a gallery with monthly exhibitions of art and photography"
My first experience of the restaurant was for a girly night out with my mother and sister and some friends about 5 years ago. Of course I then had to take the husband for a date. Who better to share a dessert with? Well I'll have to recommend then that you don't share but get your own 😉 cause boys eat too much... But been there, done that I had never been back........... But then............ they just went ahead and opened another one closer to my house - that could be a dangerous thing - in Fortitude Valley. This is not exactly a place for the health conscious!! But oh so good.
I went for a girls lunch back in October with my sister, sister in law, mother and two of my daughters. I subsequently have been back for my birthday, lunch with my brother and sister and lastly as a Saturday treat for my daughters. So now that I have been four times in a couple of months, it is time to slow down now... So to all my friends and family I am sorry but I will have to say no to all
The Freestyle Scooter
The girls wanted to pose on it, but I wasn't sure if that was allowed the invites I am sure to receive (yeah right!) Hint Hint... I've had my birthday, so we'll have to think of another excuse or someone else's birthday.
Luckily the atmosphere is pretty laid back and Freestyle is a good testing ground for teaching my children the finer art of eating at a restaurant. I told the girls we are going to a restaurant and they need to practise sitting still and just looking at things and having nice conversation with mummy. Well they did pretty good. Lucky we were basically the only customers at the time ( I recommend around 11am on a saturday) as one of the girls knocked over their big glass of water in the first 10 minutes. The waiter helped me clean the big mess and even bought over pencils and colouring pages for them (maybe he was hoping to distract them from making more mess for him to clean😊 Of course the girls just thought that was absolutely wonderful and it gave them something to do while we waited.
Though do note they do not have high chairs which was a difficulty when I went with 5 friends (who all have
small children) for my birthday. We had to be given our own section due to the prams!! The service seemed a little lacking that day - but maybe they thought we were happy to chat amongst ourselves - which we were, but we had to chase them down when we wanted something. Or maybe they were scared of all the kids!! If you really want to enjoy yourself.. Don't take your kids!! Ha ha ha ha..Eating dessert is always more fun with a bunch of friends... PLUS you get to taste everyone else's dessert..... so the more friends or family, the more taste tests!! Genius thinking..... I just can't help myself.
The problem I see is trying to pick new desserts. If I have to share, it is usually the Berry Deluxe Sundae as it is perfect thing for sharing with the kids, as it is large. So I notice I have a lot of photos taken with the Berry Sundae - which I won't bore you with. I am yet to sample all the deserts - though my sister has been here many more times than I have and has sampled most of them 😊 So you'll
Water
Is the glass half empty or half full? have to ask her advice 😊
So here's to Dessert... thank you thank you

yum yum
I am in the Emporium a lot, but not been into Freestyle Too (haha) I must take my gold scooter to meet that chic red one! Those desserts look too good to resist. Thanks for the tip and keep up the good work - also like how you are treaching your girls resturant skills: what a great idea.
