Trying to make ourselves beautiful
These were free face masks from a guy promoting his new product.
Cool eh? Sunday 19th to 30th March
So we caught the bus from Bundy to Agnes Water, booked into Cool Bananas and chilled. Now we have heard so many good reports on this hostel that it's 'so chilled out' and people 'came for a night and stayed for 3 weeks'. Well yes it is a nice hostel, cleanest one ever! But it's not as relaxed and chilled as everyone makes out. There are so many rules, everything closes 3 times a day for cleaning, you can't watch tv until after 3pm! And Greg the manager actually tells people off!
We have been here for over a week now! 4 days of which it has rained! This is due to the catergory 5 cyclone called Larry that has hit further up north and trashed a few places. Another one called Watti just missed the coastline. A catergory 5 is as bad as you can get and the one that destroyed New Orleans was the same rating, so we hope that shows you how bad it was!
We are hanging out here to do a trip to the Great Barrier Reef and an island called Lady Musgrave, but because of the weather everything
has been cancelled until 27th March, if we are lucky! Now the reason why we are doing the Barrier reef from here and not further up the coast like everyone else does is because we have heard that the further you go up north the more bleached and discoloured it becomes due to pollution etc. Like everything thing else in the world, we are killing something off. Did you know that the Barrier reef is one of the 7 wonders of the world and the only living thing you can see from space, so I, Andy reckon it's worth a visit and hopefully another successful adventure.
We have looked on the tour company's website and it says IF YOU ARE LUCKY YOU MAY EVEN SEE SHARKS. Oh dear!
Other people have been waiting as they are going up north too. Now the last few days it has actually been sunny! Which is great but there is still zilch to do here. There is a small row of shops and a beach, that's it! A couple of times we have been to the beach, but then it has been so windy that we have been forced off the beach by
Look at that for a whopper.
Caught on a size 4 hook and a lump of cheese. the sand.
Andy has had is tackle out a couple of times whilst I have sunbathed on the grass at the hostel. All he caught was a small spikey fish and a massive eel. Again on the tried and tested bait of cheese.
We have been doing a lot of tv and movie watching, reading and suduko (which I am getting good at!)
I have been to a local ballet and jazz funk class which was great! I'm still stiff!
We have been for jog as well up the road and back which took us about 15 minutes.
Now we are thinking of leaving OZ early as we have had enough of tourists and we don't think that there is that much to see, and this place is so expensive! so hopefully we shall be in Asia by April. However we are waiting on a reply from another Wwoof that we have e-mailed that
Because we have been here so long Greg (hostel owner) has given us free internet!!
We have also found out by a couple that we met on Fraser that Andy is in the 19th March edition of the TNT bacpackers magazine, and a
story that he submitted way back in Sydney about his first day at work didn't make the into the 'Word' magazine but they said that they would send out a thankyou package, so we are waiting for that to be delivered here as well which could mean we have to stay even longer!
The reason why we are doing the Barrier reef from here and not further up the coast like everyone else does is because we have heard that the further you go up north the more bleached and discoloured it becomes due to pollution etc and also due to people damaging it by touching the coral which can actually kill it, also as you probably know we like to be different and try and avoid the tourists. Did you know that the Barrier reef is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world and the only living thing that you can see from space? Well ya do now!
There are 2 places on the reef that are open for people to visit from Agnes water/1770, there is the Fitzroy coral reef lagoon and Lady Musgrave island. We have chosen to do the Lady Musgrave because withe
the Fitzroy you are on the boat all day as with the Musgrave you actually get off the boat for a little tour of the island.
We are keeping an eye on the weather and the roughness of the sea to try and pick our day, we are looking at going out on Tuesday as Monday is going to be the first trip out for the boat in over a week due to the bad weather and the cyclone's Larry and Watti, that have now passed. So hopefuly our patience will pay off and we can stop scratching the paint off of these hostel walls.
