Tamworth
Our family in front of the golden guitar Last night I closed the blog page by accident and lost most of this update, so tonight I’m typing in a word document and I’ll just copy and paste to avoid loosing this and going to bed in annoyance.
So, I’m a bad sister and missed my brother’s birthday on Monday. I had remembered his birthday all last week and then forgot on the day until about 10pm. I still haven’t spoken to him… bad sister. Happy Birthday Brendon!!!!
We left Ellenborough and travelled to Walcha, with the intention of spending one night so we could get some washing done. One night turned into one week (who can turn down the bargain of $138 / week), which turned into two weeks.
Walcha isn’t said how it looks, it is actually pronounced Walca and I have no idea why it has the h in the name. Apart from that it is a lovely country town. The people were friendly; it was very tidy and really pretty. There are a heap of sculptures in the town and the posts of all the shop awnings are carved and they are regenerating the Apsley River that runs through town. It snows there
Ryan & Noah
In front of the golden guitar in Tamworth in winter and it was quite chilly, but a place I’d happily revisit.
After our first night we took a drive to Armidale (about 60-70km) to go shopping for warm clothing! Poor Noah woke up like a popsicle and was in desperate need of some proper winter pjs, I needed tracksuit pants and some long sleeve tops and Ryan needed tracksuit pants and jumpers.
While in Walcha we attended the Walcha Agricultural Show. Perhaps I was a bit ambitious, but I packed the nappy bag and pram thinking we were going to be there all day. It only took about an hour to walk around and see everything… little country town shows are not like the Brisbane Ekka.
Noah once again made friends with everyone at the caravan park and he has really perfected his approach… smile, wave without stopping for the first minute and say hi repeatedly until they say hello back.
We took a drive to Tamworth one afternoon, the countryside was picturesque, but we spent most of the time trying to find the Australian Rambo in the hope of getting the $250,000 reward.
Actually, Aussie Rambo is the reason we stayed in
Noah Bear
One of Noah cause I can Walcha for two weeks. We were going to free camp around Chaffey Dam, but he’s supposed to be close to that area and neither of us were keen to have him knocking on the caravan door while we were isolated, so we stayed in relative safety.
A couple staying in the caravan park are on-farm butchers and were kind enough to give us some ox tail, soup bones and steak. We had great fun experimenting with the camp oven (cooked over the cob) and made some great stews. My jam roly poly wasn’t completely successful, but it was tasty. As a thank you, I made them a batch of anzac biscuits.
If you are ever passing through Walcha it is worth stopping for a wander and I can recommend a stay at the caravan park. The hosts, Neil and Glennys, are friendly and welcoming and the caravan park is the cleanest I’ve ever stayed at.
Our new ‘home’ is Guyra and will be for the next week.
