We finally did it, braved the surf! We bought ourselves some boogie boards and headed to Warriewood Beach which is about a 20min drive from North Sydney. It was a beautifully sunny day on Saturday and the water was warm at 20C. The current was quite strong but we had a good laugh, and hopefully good exercise too, trying to surf the waves. We both wore our new hats trying to shade out the sun - have a good laugh at the pics. The Aussies are very good about covering up in the sun, and many wear long sleeved 'rash vests' all day. We're going to buy some soon too as we ended up with tummy rashes from our boogie boards.

On the way home, we passed through a Drive-In Bottle Shop (what great irony) to pick up some drinks for the evening.

We then went for a BBQ (BRAAI!!!!) at Marcus and Michaela's flat in Balmain (across the Harbour and Anzac bridges from us in North Sydney). Mike works with Marcus. They are a lovely German couple who have been together for 17 years. They had invited 9 other people over and it was a fun evening. Just look at the beautiful water and harbour views they have. We're going to Jervis Bay again for the weekend 24/25 March, and Marcus and Michaela are joining us. We're staying at a b&b on the Saturday night and then going deep sea fishing on the Sunday. We'll be popping the sea-sickness pills in preparation :-) as Mike had a bumpy time last time.

On Sunday we visited my cousin David and his wife Trudy who live 30mins north of North Sydney in a suburb called South Turramurra. It's really lovely there as it is surrounded by miles and miles of nature reserve, which is greater than the size of Wales! The houses are also larger and more spread out as it's out of the city. They took us walking in the nearby nature reserve and Mike saw his first Wallaby and Roo! It was pretty hot and humid so we took the walk slowly. Trudy and David have been really good to us and have lent us all sorts of things we need for our move into our new flat next Saturday, like a double mattress, pillows, crockery and cutlery etc, as our furniture only arrives in about 3

Now if that isn't ironic! Bottle store in SA, Off License in UK and now Bottle Shop (and a drive in for that matter) in Oz - no wonder we're confused!
