28/12/08 = Awful, awful goon = terrible, terrible hangover!
Felt rubbish when woke up, so carried on snoozing until 11. Ashamed to say that in meantime I woke up and was sick...so disappointed in self. Went back to bed, but then everyone seemed to be getting up at 11, so I got up too (feeling rubbbbissshhh). Chatted for while and Kirst filled me in in a few details, like sambuca shots with Troy...thanks v.much Troy!Hate Sambuca! Gem also had to carry one of swedish girls home because she was so drunk - goon = evil!
Went down to breakfast and Mummy Kirsty made me force in a slice of toast and some water. Would usually be right thing, but ended up making me feel really bad. Had to trudge upstairs and get ready for beach because was such a lovely day outside. Walk was awful, like sheer torture. Had to do my usual drunk/poor;y walk of walking half bent over with Kirst half carrying me...bless her. Felt really sick and did worse thing yet when was sick behind a bus stop. 25yrs old and sick in city centre of Sydney on a bright, sunny day...it's just not right! Bus
for beach came and was too full for us to get on - all took that as a sign that it wasn't meant to be for me and beach and ended up coming back to hostel (only Hat still went to beach). Felt really bad about girls coming back with me and missing beach, but they insisted.
Journey back to hostel was done in usual poorly Falkinder fashion - head down all the way! Kirst had to prop me up for most of journey. Definitely feeling worse as day went on. Got straight into bed when got back and girls went up onto roof to sunbathe. Stayed in bed all afternoon trying to sleep and feeling most unwell. Had to get up at 4 to be sick again (really not good) and girls came to check I was still alive at 5...was still clinging onto life. All rest of evening consisted of me being in bed, squirming around 1/3 bored, 1/3 ill and 1/3 annoyed about being in bed! Gem and Kirst decided to go to cinema with Coventry guys and at 8, I just about managed to stand up un-aided. Me and Deb went for a walk instead
of cinema. Went up to Hyde park and laid down watching stars, which was really nice. When we could take no more of the bugs eating us, walked back. Devastated when I started to feel poorly again....9 o'clock at night and still a hangover...you've got to be kidding! NEVER DRINK GOON! Had to crawl straight back into bed and try to go to sleep for the 100th time today 😞
29/12/08 = A day at Manly
Still felt bit rubbish when woke up - my body definitley not designed for goon...or maybe just not alcohol in general. Nice day outside and determined not to have another bed day, so forced down some awful wheetabix, showered and got changed for day. Had quick team talk and decided to go to Manly for day, even though predicted rain and showers. Got free bus down to ferry terminal = very good and got in a very busy queue for ferry. Terminal was heaving with people and were some Aboriginals singing and dancing who were really good. Got our $13 tickets then followed master Hattie to find the 'best seats on the boat'. She did good, and got us front seats
with an amazing view. As soon as ferry pulled out, had a brilliant view of Bridge and Opera House in front of us; city skyline looked really good too. Was another giggly trip. Suppose as soon as you get 5 girls together (well technically I suppose we are ladies really), is always going to be giggly.
Was really sunny when we stepped off the ferry and all got a bit excited. Dreams were soon shattered when headed to beach, where dark clouds and cold had set in. Still lots of people on beach though, so decdied to join them and plonked our towels down. Didn't even get to the stage of taking off cloths and putting cream on before realised it was way too cold to sunbathe. Instead, me and Kirst made a beach bed, using her towel as a matress and mine as a blankie. Not your usual sunbathing. Persevered for 10mins, then had to go in serach of hot chocolate or some other hot beverage to warm us up. On way through town we spotted some guys warming up for a show (well Gem spotted them...typical Gem) and decided to see what they were doing. Within 5
mins a huge crowd had formed and guys started break dancing. They were really good. Was really funny when they got guys out of the crowd to have dance-off too, which included moves such as the chicken leg and a v.enlightening version of a moonwalk. Was an awesome finish to the show when one of the dancers jumped over 4 and a half people (1 child) and ended in what Hattie termed a "roly-bloody-ploy" = very good.
After watching dancers, headed off in search for hot drinks and spotted a pancake shop. Got straight in. Had a lovely lemon pancake, as did some of others (except Hattie, who tried to order a goats cheese panini with goats cheese - didn't work out anyway). Spent an hour eating (but mostly giggling) in there, then headed back into town to explore. Manly = a nice little town and some really good shops. Still in search of an I Love Australia T-shirt, but search = v.pain staking. Every time go to a new place, T-shirt says mane of that place, rather than Australia, so all could find was I Love Manly T-shirts 😞. Was when looking in shops that Hattie discovered our
new years eve outfits - that we weren't even looking for! Outfits consisted of silkky, Australian, mens boxershorts (that we tried on in shop despite funny looks), an Australian flag (to be used as a cape) and also some Australian transfer stickers. Altogether a v.Australian theme. Not bad for $20 though.
Headed back for home then. Ferry ride wasn't as good on way back because colder and didn't get as good a seat (had to sit on side). Got bus up George street because couldn't face cold walk, then went to Woolworths to buy items for dinner. Having seen guys cooking good meals in hostel, and not wanting to be beaten, had decided to cook a big Mexican meal for us all, even Swedish girls. Cost $10 each for everything and turned out to be an amazing meal. Started cooking straight away when got back to hostel. I made starter = nachos + cheese + salsa + sour cream, Deb and Kirst made mains = chicken and beef fajitas and all other girls chopped and prepared. Meal was gorgeous, but way too big. We all got completely stuffed, including Swedish girls who loved the word 'stuffed'. Couldn't finish it
all, but was so nice. Had to go and have a lay down after it and by time got up, was a mini corridor party outside again. Guys were going out and having some drinks, so joined them...not for drinks though....ohhhh noooo...no drinks for me! Chatted to them until midnight, nice guys, then we went off to bed and guys went off for their night out. So nice to go to bed feeling well... maybe I won't drink anymore!?!
