Hi Everyone!
I am coming down to my last days in Sydney. I can't believe that I have been here for a month. It is easy to loose track of time. I have had a really great time here and met a lot of really fun people. Since it is the low season for tourism in Sydney most of the travelers that I have met are here on a working holiday visa like me. We all have a lot in common. We are all looking for work and planning on being away from home for a long time. There is so many decisions that go into living abroad in a foreign country, even if that country is an English speaking one. A few years ago I couldn't even contemplate coming to a foreign country without a job or a place to stay. But I have met people who are only 18 and 19 that have no problem facing that kind of insecurity. I really admire them. Right now I am sharing a room with two girls from the UK who are planning to work in Sydney for the next 6 months and then start traveling. If you are from Europe you

It was take all you can carry icecream! I just found this while I was walking along in the city! I love Australia! can qualify for a second year working holiday visa if you work for at least 3 months with the same employer. Americans aren't eligible for that as far as I know. I count myself lucky to have received the first working holiday visa. I have yet to meet any other Americans here.
I spent a day at the Taronga Zoo with a girl from Germany who had lived in Italy for 4 years and also spoke Spanish and English. I taught her the words 'wilt' and 'heathen.' It is amazing what kinds of holes can be left in formal language training. You have to take a ferry from the Circular Quay to get to the zoo, so it ends up costing 50 dollars. This was more than it cost to see the San Francisco Zoo and now I feel nostalgia for how cheap everything is in the US. On the other hand I didn't get to see Tasmanian Devils in America.
I took a trip through Chinatown, Darling Harbour, Glebe, The Rocks, and QVB. There are so many small districts within Sydney city that there is always something interesting to see. Every weekend there are small markets and
Sydney and Giraffes
The views from the zoo were almost as good as the zoo itself. street stalls all over the city. The ones in Paddington are like an outdoor art market and the ones in Glebe are like a yard sale. It is interesting to contrast the markets aimed at tourists with the ones aimed at locals. The market at the Rocks is clearly aimed at the high end tourist market with 300 dollar paintings and jewelery.
I also took a walk along the coast starting at Coogee Beach and walking until Bondi. It is about 5 miles or so. It is very beautiful because you can see about 4 major and 3 minor beaches along the way. There is also a cemetery along the cliffs. I have been trying to see as much in Sydney as possible because I am not sure if I a will be coming back here once I leave.
