You know when you visit a cretin country there is that one city you have to see, like when going to Italy you have to go and see Rome. In Australia Sydney is that city! There is just so much to do and see and of course you have to take your picture by the iconic Opera house which will no doubt find its way to a frame in you house when you return home. I lived in Sydney for 4 months and was able to experience everything that Sydney and surrounding areas had to offer and figured I would share my experience and things I did and loved. When I first got to Oz I did all the touristy things such as seeing the Opera house walk all along down town it is tourist central it was overwhelming and exciting being there the one thing I was disappointed about was there want many Aussies. For an Australian experience I was expecting more Australian around but in the city it is a lot of foreigners, tourists, and backpackers. If looking to live in Sydney just know it is expensive, I was living in Bondi probably one of the more expensive places
to live but I was in a 2 bedroom apartment with 4 people and we were all paying $800 a month. Shocking I know especially when you have to share a room with someone.
But the weather is so amazing I was there from January- April it was a beautiful summer and sun screen is a MUST in this part of the world the sun is very intense! If wandering around down town you will inevitably walk towards the royal botanical gardens a massive park in the middle of down town it is beautiful to walk threw and there is usually a band of some kind playing, there is people picnicking and tanning every where as well another cool thing about the gardens is there are tones of Cockatoos these extremely loud white beautiful birds are everywhere and if you have some food you can get them to eat right out of your hand it is a cool experience. Down town there is also the Sydney tower there is one of these in every city around the world. But their always really cool to go up in because you get to see so much of the surrounding area and
it is only $20 you can’t go wrong really and when your all done checking out Sydney from the sky at the base of the tower there is the best food court ever! It is like a higher end food court if that makes any scents in this food court you won’t find any McDonalds or subway. there is desert places, a bake house, juice bar,and a lot of Asian places (the good stuff) my favorite was this Thai place I seen a soup dish someone else ordered and it was amazing to this day I have no idea what it is but man was it good lol.
If your willing to venture just a little bit further out side the city you can catch a public bus or a train to Bondi only 15 min away, which is where I lived for my time in Sydney. There are a lot of Irish living in Bondi, which I love, Irish is my favorite accent. Bondi beach its self is nice it is groomed everyday and everyone goes there, the surf is good and you can even rent boards right on the beach. There is a 50 meter rock pool
there as well it looks like a swimming pool but it is ocean water and the waves splash into the pool it is really neat but to have this pool ocean experience you are looking at forking over $5.50. If hungry in Bondi you have to check out my favorite coffee shop Gusto Espresso Bar it has the best yogurt and home made muesli you will ever taste EVER! once done the amazing muesli you should take a walk a little secret the beach right next to Bondi is called Tamarama and more of the locals go there it is less touristy and if your a good surfer the waves are bigger. If you have gone to Tamarama you might as well follow the sea side walk all the way to Cooggie beach this sea side walk is about an hour walk and you pass 5 beaches and see the cost line seeing surfers beautiful beaches there are a lot of cool photo spots and if your there at the right time of the year you will see pods of wales go buy.
If you looking to get out of the city even further you can catch a train
to New Castle it is a charming area with of course nice beaches where you can have bonfires and drink goon and if you drink to much goon and pass out you may even get a ride in a wheelbarrow back to the camp sight (true story) lol. This is an interesting area because it is desert the meats ocean and the sand doons are pretty high. So you can take your board and slide down the hill lol it is like tobogganing except it is hot out and on sand it is a lot of fun especially if you go down on your stomach just be sure not to put your head down or you will be picking sand out of you mouth for a week.
Another cool Aussie experience is surfing Mojo Surf School is a good choice they do day outings with surf instructors and week long courses and buy the end of that week you are practically pro. Let me tell ya though surfing is a work out especially in the beginning when they give you the big boards (so you can actually stand up) but getting that big ass board out passed the surf
is work lol but it is all worth it when you catch that wave and don’t actually fall off lol.
A nice day trip/photo opp/ leisurely thing to do in Sydney is catch the ferry to Manly beach on your way to Manly you will be leaving down town Sydney and you will get the best photo of the Oprah house and the Sydney bridge along with the Sydney skyline. Once you get to Manly you walk threw the little town to the beach where there are always surfers you can do another coastal walk Manly to Dee Way while your there as well. As you might have guessed I like hiking lol. In Manly their are a lot of nice cafe’s, restaurants and shops for the inner shopper in you.
