1st 24 hours in Oz - Sydney

It was a 9 hour flight from Thailand, we didn’t sleep at all. Got off the plane, went through customs and immigration and had to get shoes washed from hiking up dodgy mountains to viewpoints with only a rope to hang on to,, which should not be allowed. Handy getting the shoes washed, they were filthy went through arrivals and spotted a massive cockroach legging it ahead! Got outside, was expecting it to be blue skies and sunshine but it was FREEZEN!

We were thankful and the fresh air and a bit of a breeze after spending our first and last 3 days in Bangkok. Those who have been to Bangkok will know what I am on about,,, the smell!!! To describe it would be like asking one to picture an empty room and add the following;

A full rubbish bin that has not been emptied in weeks, dead animal, animal faeces, human faeces, rotten food, human faeces needs to be noted twice!!!!

Anyway, got on the train, got off at our stop, knew the hotel was around the corner just not too sure which one. Ozzy stopped to help us which after just arriving from Bangkok we may have appeared rude and unsure of his assistance but back there people don’t just stop you to help you out of kindness it usually involves trying to help you spend your money or sending you on a tuk tuk when you are literally around the corner and charging you 300 baht/7.50euro (which happened one drunken night in Ko Samui). It turned out he was heading the same direction and walked us straight to the door. Feeling very damaged we thanked him and arrived safe and sound!

Went to the bank and activated our accounts half asleep. Ended up with savings account superannuation (pension) and life insurance. After Cairns we must read the fine print or at least before starting work when all comes into effect! <span> Sounded good at the time (probably too good) Had a sleep, went to an Irish Bar, spoke to Dubs who had only been to that pub and had been in Sydney for 3 weeks and never spoke to an Australian. Spoke to a guy from an Island off Fiji, who had been put forward to be chief but rejected the offer as he would have to stay there. He told us when he visits his Island he must now avoid the now chief as when people return they spend most of their time with him and not their family. Spoke to two Kiwis got offered jobs and sponsorship in one of their bars around the corner. Took business card., lost business card. Went to the other ones apartment, had a giggle, amazing view of the city. Was told about his job. He monitors a call centre from home, when people aren’t working he can tell by phone inactivity and he rings them and put them to work! Left early hours of the morning, back to the hotel, back out for food at Hungry Jacks, back to hotel, breakfast started, had some breakfast and off to bed. Not a bad 24 hrs : )
