Hey All,
Claire here with yet another fun filled entry. After having an excellent Christmas day and Boxing/St.Stephens days at the races we were ready for a nice few relaxing days off..but that wasn't to be the case for the travelling trio..we had a hectic schedule to keep. First off was a BBQ at 42 Bondi Road. Swear the boys in this house must think we never get fed..every time they have a BBQ we're always there..and the boys in this house always put on the best spread so we never leave the house hungry! This time was no different and the boys even cooked for us in the rain..burgers, kebabs, sausages you name it they had it cooking! Again a great days craic was had here and there were a few new faces making an appearance in Sydney that day so we spent most of the day having the craic with them. The travelling trio were to have an early night as we had an early start in the morn.
So up we got at dawn the next morning and made our way to Kings Cross where we were to get the bus to the Blue Mountains..stopping off for
At Featherdale Wildlfie Park
The Trio and their new friend a latte and Joanne's favourite banana bread on the way! Our first stop was Featherdale Wildlife Park where we got the chance to see and get up close to koalas and other Australian animals. The next stop was Echo Point to see the famous Three Sisters rock formation, followed by a scenic Cliff Drive with breathtaking views of the Megalong Valley. Next up was Katoomba, the heart of the Blue Mountains' resort region where we got the chance to ride the Scenic Cableway (the steepest aerial cable car in Australia) over the rainforest of the Jamison Valley..Excellent but very scary! After all that we stopped for lunch..being in Oz and feeling very touristy that day the travelling trio opted for Kangaroo..which was yummy! We made our journey home via the Olympic Park Village where the Sydney 2000 olympics were held and it was very impressive. Our day trip concluded with a Matilda river cruise along the Parramatta River to Darling Harbour. We had a brilliant day but it wasn't over yet as this was to be Joanne's last Sunday night in Sydney so we got back to Bennett Street an got ready to go out. We had a great night
that night in O'Malleys in Kings Cross and there were so many people out to share Joanne's last Sunday night out in Sydney..a fab night was had by all!
Next up was our outing to the Moonlight Cinema, an outdoor cinema screening the classic film 'The commitments' in Centennial Park. The screening started at sundown and it was brilliant. Although the majority of us had seen the film on numerous occasions before it was crazy to think we were sitting in a field, on a beanbag outside in the middle of December munching on popcorn, crisps, sweets watching a film on the big screen..its hiliarious now looking back thinking about the state of us!
So! Like every other Christmas, before we knew it, it was almost over & New Years Eve was upon us! Where had 2008 gone?! For the past week, like a typical Christmas at home, everyone was debating where to go for NYEve…some were going to Dover Heights as it was said to have a great view for the fireworks…others opted to go to the city to the Rocks area & watch them from there but in the end, The Lighthouse at Vaucluse won the
vote! And it couldn’t have been better!
It was a beautiful day in Sydney, the sun was shining and there was no fear of icey roads and wondering would we get a taxi like the usual pantomime at home! By 4 pm, we had the gladrags on…faces painted…cool bags filled with sarnies, treats and of course a few tipples for that big toast when the clock would hit 12!! We all headed up at different times that day but it was Angela and I who I think had the most eventful trip to the Lighthouse! By the time we were ready to head, our good friend Ciara Cooney had offered us a lift with her sister & a few friends in the back of the traffic controllers van! No bother to us…sure it saved us of waiting on a taxi…but oh dear god, we didn’t realise this van was the equivalent to a mobile sauna!!! In we jumped to the back of it with Ciaran Shields & a few others; and let me tell you, it was absolutely BOILING!!! Between the heat outside, us all squeezed in the back & the lack of air-conditioning, Angela & I were never
as glad to see a Lighthouse in our lives!!! So as you can imagine, we looked a lovely site when we jumped out of the van like the hillbillies - safe to say it provided others with great entertainment!!!
Nevertheless, as soon as we arrived, we knew we were in for a fantastic evening/night & that it was! Almost everyone we had met since arriving to Sydney was there. Everyone looked fab…with picnics, gazebo’s, deck chairs, you name it - it was all there! So as the night went on, more & more people arrived and the craic was brilliant! At 9 o clock, they let off a few fireworks mainly for children as the majority of them would be tucked up by 12 and would miss the real ones!! These were absolutely amazing but to be honest, the ones at 12 completely topped it!!! As we all stood in great anticipation, before we knew it - the whole sky had lit up!!! They were absolutely gorgeous and the view we had was amazing! The area we were in was literally a football playing field set on a height just off the main road in Vaucluse so the views
were class. They lasted for 15-20 minutes and were exactly as you see on tv and better!
After that, we sat on there enjoying the craic, phoning and texting almost everyone back home! As it was a little away from Bondi, everyone had to stagger home (not literally now!) at different times as there was only one bus in operation that night that ran every hour to hour and a half! But thankfully we all made it back safe & sound in one piece! It was an amazing night & Joanne, Angela and I totally loved it - safe to say one of, if not the best New Years Eve’s to date!! And definitely one not to be forgotten!
So there ye have it! The Travelling Trio have had an amazing 2008 and hope you all had too…but most importantly…Happy New Year to all our friends and family back home and best wishes for 2009!!
Lots of love,
Claire & Angela xxx
