Over night in Port Stevens – the Butlins of Australia I had a really shitty sleep because I had no roll mat so it was like sleeping on the ground which was not pleasant – ah well it's better than a kick in the balls.
Decided to get up early for the sunrise which was quite magical, the only thing that interrupted my serenity was that I was being feasted on by a couple of mozzies; “Dirty feckers.” I can't stress how much I hate them. I thought it would be a good idea to escape to the water to get away from them; it worked to a degree.
After about 30 min of having a cat fight with the mozzies I went back to camp to pack up and wake Louis up so we could get straight on the road.
First stop: Myall Lakes National Park, Not far from Newcastle, features one of the State’s largest coastal lake systems that offers countless opportunities for canoeing and kayaking, boating and fishing. The park also boasts more than 40kms of beaches that offer some good swimming and surfing spots. Of
course we did none of the above but were well impressed with the massive sand dunes. The climb up the dune nearly killed us and at that moment I though it would have been awesome if we had an SUV for the excursion.
It was pretty cool up there and we spent a little over an hour exploring and visiting the beach.
We drove on through the park and had to catch a 5 min ferry over the lake to the other side where we caught the road to get us back on the Pacific highway.
Our next stop that day was the
Bongil Bongil National Park, Bundagen with a stop at Maccas along the way for some really really cheap ice-cream. You can buy a cone for 30c. I am convinced its the only thing cheap in Australia...anyway,
The rainforest of Bongil Bongil National Park provides habitat for migrating birds and animals, and surrounding eucalypt forests are home to one of NSW’s largest koala populations. You might see them sleeping in the treetops or munching on leaves.
- bullshit, we really wanted to see a Koala as its on my list but they
were a no-show. Drove down one of the dodgiest bush roads at which point we had to stop at a chained fence and walk the other 2km to the beach. Needless to say this was a tough expedition in the boiling midday sun. We were pissed bigTIME – we did not see one Koala. I’m stating to think they don’t exist, they are make-believe, like Elves, Gremlins and Eskimos. But on the plus we seen a massive owl and the beach wasn’t that bad.
We left the park and continued on to
Coffs Harbour: Almost half way between Brisbane and Sydney lies the beautiful beachside city of Coffs Harbour. At the heart of the Coffs Coast, Coffs Harbour is well-known for its friendly, relaxed atmosphere, its spectacular coastline, and its many attractions and events. We set up camp and made it our mission to buy roll mats after our bad nights sleep. I had a hidden agenda in this as for the life of me I did not no how to pack my pop-up tent. It did not come with instructions and that morning I just stuffed in the back of the car to the best of my
ability which affected the visibility during the days driving.
So in the camping store I got your man to show me how it works. Sorted!!!!
Later that night I took my sweet heart Louis for a romantic stroll down the boardwalk in Coffs harbour to the tune of Bruce Willis singing “under the board walk”; from what I can tell that's all this place had going for it, but still it was very cool.
Got back to the hostel about 8pm and I was jacked, all I wanted to do was go to bed but I stayed up and watched Bondi pet which is a load of bollocks. I noticed it started to rain so I ran back to my tent and jumped in. About 10 min into it I noticed the tent was leaking – “ohh shit”, 20 min later my tent was flooded “piece of shit”. I jumped in the car for a bit, got bored and got Louis to leave his tent and come join me in the kitchen where the banter continued. We spent the whole day quoting the best lines from Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Simpsons. Such gems such as “more cream
corn Jimbo Junior?” “This cream corn tastes like cream crap!” and “get to the choppa”.
This continued till about 9pm; it stopped raining so I left Louis to his game playing “roller coaster tycoon” on his new laptop which he is obsessed with.
Used a towel to dry my tent and it was sweet dreams for me :-)
