From being a complete "do everything" tourist in Sydney I decided that it was time to have some R&R. So, yes you guessed it, my next destination was the beach! Caught the Greyhound bus up to Port Macquarie which took a good chunk of the day. It's a nice little place with lovely beaches, painted rocks and even dolphins. The hostel we stayed in was fantastic too - very small and homely, although some bloke's terrible (and I mean terrible) smelling trainers did kind of ruin the last evening I spent there.

There is also a Koala Sanctuary/Hospital there which is really interesting too. Walked up there one afternoon and had a tour around the place and watched them being fed their favourite eucalyptus leaves. They were all incredibly cute, but some of them were quite ill (most had something called "wet bottom" but there were others which had been involved in car accidents etc).

And so, after a few days of laying on the beach at Port Macquarie I next went up to party central Byron Bay. Not nearly as laid back as Port Macquarie but was a great laugh. Didn't really do much there apart from

go to the beach, organise all my various trips beyond Brisbane and of course enjoy the nightlife.

Don't worry I didn't spend all my time on the beach in Australia though...
