Winter Camping
Image Source: Pixabay Camping during winter is fun, but you have first to figure out how to stay warm. You cannot enjoy your camping if you are freezing. However, cold weather is not an enough excuse to avoid camping.
It doesn't matter whether you are skiing, fishing, hunting or just enjoying the beauties of Mother Nature, your goal should be to stay warm at all times.
You can achieve this only through adequate preparation and take some steps while you are at your camp.
Preparation is paramount to enjoying your camping experience. Don't joke with your health, ensure you stay warm at all times when you are out camping during the winter or cold weathers.
There are a few things you can do to keep yourself warm. Let's look at some simple tips you can use to stay warm while enjoying your camping experience in the winter season.
Know Your Body
Our bodies work in different ways; while it is easier for some people to stay warm for a long time or withstand cold, others can find themselves in debilitating health conditions with a little cold.
Your gender, age, fitness, and some body fats affect how you stay warm or get cold. You can be able to shop for a better gear for yourself when you understand how your body works.
If you are someone who gets cold quickly, then it's better to go with quality and get good, thick, well-made gear.
Dressing for the Occasion
Understand that you are going out into the cold weathers, wearing light clothes such as cotton T-shirt should be the last thing on your mind. Find appropriate base layers such as wools or insulation synthetics.
Additionally, you will need to pack neck warmer, a woollen hat and a pair of thick woollen socks. These will keep your warm while you are moving about the camp and while you are sleeping.
Using Tech Gear
Your gear is equally important. You need to bag according to conditions, the length of stay and purpose. While it's not on everybody's radar, cameras, drones and other high tech gear is also now part of the camping landscape.
From mini
Compact Drones to Mavic FPV Drones, recording your trip is part of the experience. Be sure to keep all tech gear in a weatherproof bag or container to keep it from damage.
Also make sure tha tyou have an adequate power supply for all electronic gear you plan to use.
wearing Right Boots
Wearing the right boots is critical. It's one of the more crucial things to consider in preparation for a winter camp. Cold can penetrate through your foot and spread to your body if you don't have a boot that can withstand the snow and the cold weather.
I will recommend getting something as reliable as Ugg boots. Ugg boots are extremely comfortable and cosy.
They stand out for the comfort of their sheepskin liner. They are lightweight and very comfortable. Provided they are water resistant (or you are on dry ground), they don't impede your movement around camp either.
Check with
Ugg Express on what might be suitable in your circumstances.
My favourite thing about the Ugg Boot is its plush shearling insulation. You will feel safe anytime you put these boots on.
Eating
You need to keep your body active while you are sleeping, this way, your body will generate enough heat to keep you warm. You can achieve this by eating a hot meal just before you go to sleep.
To make this more effective, eat fatty food to provide your body with enough energy and heat.
Dress For Bed
You need to wear clothes that will shield you from the cold Don't wait until it gets cold and you get uncomfortable.
Body heat originates from the within; your goal should be wearing something robust enough to contain the heat generated from within your body around you.
Wear warm clothes; cover your legs and neck area before going to bed. You can as well do some exercises like doing press ups to help you generate heat before going to bed.
Using and Insulating Sleeping Mat
According to studies, what you have under you when you are sleeping is more important than what you have on top if you want to stay warm. Find a sleeping mat that insulates you from the cold.
You can even have more insulation using a closed cell mat than an air mattress. You should be using a pad with the higher R-value when you are sleeping in cold weather.
Staying Hydrated
Take enough water
even when you are not particularly thirsty. In winter, you may not feel particularly dry - even when you have lost fluid. So, use common sense and keep hydrated.
If you don't feel like taking water, take tea. You need to keep yourself hydrated to stay healthy while you are enjoying your winter camp in Australia.
