Perhaps it was my study of history, remembering when Canada got a new flag in 1964
or the fresh eyes of an immigrant, certainly consulting with thousands of
Australians in the design process of sixteen years enabled me to create the flag
which is touching the hearts of our nation. Perhaps talking to half a million fellow
citizens in a now ten year long campaign uniquely qualifies me for a place at the
summit. I know the rich and varied feelings on the flag issue. And while I am happy
that my application centers on 'Southern Cross and Boomerang', I will be eminently
conversant on the other issues in the governance area having done the chant, the
preamble and a republic model and being part way through the anthem. I will be
articulate on citizen referenda.
