Hello to all my northern hemisphere friends!
I hope you are having a lovely fall while I get ready for summer! All of my Australian friends tell me that this is just the spring, it only gets hotter! I often wonder if I can cope without air conditioning. I am still working at Mick's Bakehouse. I am planning to move on after Christmas and spend the new year in Melbourne and see some city fireworks. Maybe a winter beach or two. Right now I am enjoying making friends with all the backpackers that come through the Fruitshack and the ladies at Mick's Bakehouse.
Today was the Melbourne Cup. Apparently it is a Australian celebration that involves dressing up, gambling and drinking all day long. Mick's Bakehouse closed for the occasion and the girls and I spent the day getting dressed up and taking pictures. I am still not sure who won the race.
Right now I am sharing a room with three girls from the UK. Two of the girls are named Emma and the other girl is named Kat. They are all wonderful girls and are very nice to me. Emma number 1 works with me at Micks. Emma 2
Pool Hours
Extended Christmas hours! is a beauty therapist by trade and is here to earn her 2nd year visa. Kat is a future pirate and she spent a year studying abroad in Canada so she understands strange North American customs like Thanksgiving, pumpkin pie, and Resses peanut butter cups.
There many lovely girls that work at Mick's with me. Tara and Nicolette are closest in age to me. They are always helping me at work, especially with those weird American isms I never see coming. (Emptying the bin means emptying the garbage can. A biscuit is a cookie.) They invited Emma and me to spend the day with them for Melbourne Cup. Tara invited me to her birthday party and let me take her True Blood poster back to my room at the Fruitshack.
At the Fruitshack I have seen many interesting people come and go. There were only 2 other Americans. Alec was here when I got here. He is still in college and only came for the summer because his mother is friends with Micheal and Debbie, who own the Fruitshack. There was another American here briefly who annoyed everyone with his constantly comparing everything to how things are "in America." He
didn't stay long. Since Americans aren't eligible for a second work and holiday visa there is not alot of reason for them to be working in the country side.
On the other hand, I have gotten to meet many Germans here. Caro and Sophie organized Christmas in July for us and made great dumplings. Isabelle and Marcella were two more great German girls who were here at different times. I miss them a lot now that they have traveled on.
I hope I can meet lots of other great people here! I will try to keep you updated, and you can look forward to lots of updates when I start traveling again!

Hi
Jenny, How are you? I hope you are well. I want to thank you for the lovely Christmas card. I got yesterday in the mail. Your card is the first of the season! It was good to hear from you. I have been following your blog. It sounds and looks like you have met many really nice people. I hope you are enjoying yourself. We will miss you too this Christmas. I hope you will be with your friends on Christmas. Have a nice dinner. I will be thinking of you. I will check in on your folks at Christmas time. We are having the Olson Christmas in a couple of weeks. I will try to send you pictures. I am not very good at emails with pictures, but I will try. So what's new here. Brad and Casey are expecting in May. We are all very excited about having a new little one. Sarah Brizgis just got hired as a 1st grade teacher at Marseilles Elementary. She starts next Monday. She is so excited about getting this position. Christopher brought a house in Ottawa in May. He moved in on June 1st and is very happy there. Tim is still in Cincinnati working of Krogers. He is doing great. I am fine. I am teaching myself to crochet so I can make a baby blanklet. Uncle Larry spent the summer and fall painting the buildings out on the farm in Grand Ridge. A big job- but he got in done and it looks great. He and Nancy are leaving this Friday for a short trip to Nashville and the Grand Olde Opry. So anyway that is all my news for now. Stay safe and take care, love you, Aunt Nancy
