Hi there, we arrived here in Coffs harbour on January 29th, after spending some time in the Dorrigo National park, and a free camp in Thora.
Dorrigo National Park is a
national park in
New South Wales (
Australia), 580 km north of
Sydney on Dome Road off the
Waterfall Way, 5 km east of the town of
Dorrigo.
The Park is part of the New England Group of the
World Heritage Site Gondwana Rainforests of Australiainscribed in 1986 and added to the
Australian National Heritage List in 2007.
This national park is recognised as an area of exceptional natural beauty with significant habitats of outstanding value to science and conservation.
The Rainforest Centre is a major CERRA interpretation centre. The interactive display, The Rainforest Revealed, explains how the rainforest evolved and gives insights into the animal and plant species that live there.
The park contains several tracks allowing hikers to view the park's waterfalls and vistas to the coastal plain. A notable feature of the park is the Skywalk, an elevated walkway through and above the treetops, providing birdwatchers with an excellent view of local bird life.
We took a walk from glade picnic area to Crystal shower falls, and then onto Tristania falls, both very stunning,
and the walk was amazing!!! so much vegetation and so many shades of vibrant greens, with a splas of colour at times.
After leaving the National park we stayed at a free camp in Thora, which is half way between Dorrigo and Coffs Harbour, a bit noisy as it was by the roadside, but Free!!!!!
From here we arrived in Coffs Harbour and found ourselves a very nice 5 star caravan park.
Coffs Harbour, in
Australia, is a coastal city located on the north coast of
New South Wales about 540 km (340 mi) north of Sydney, and 390 km (240 mi) south of
Brisbane. Its population was 45,580 in 2011 with the greater region having a population of 70,990 in 2012.
According to the
Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Coffs Harbour has the most liveable climate in Australia, and it is nestled between a high mountain backdrop and dozens of beaches. Coffs Harbour's economy was once based mainly on bananas, now being superseded by blueberries as well as tourism and fishing.
The city has a campus of
Southern Cross University, a public<sup id="cite_ref-5" class="reference" style="line-height: 1em;
unicode-bidi: -webkit-isolate;">
and a private hospital, several radio stations, and three major shopping centres. Coffs Harbour is near numerous
National Parks, including a Marine National Park. There are regular passenger flights each day to
Sydney,
Brisbane, and
Melbourne departing from
Coffs Harbour Airport. Coffs Harbour is also accessible by road, by
NSW TrainLink trains, and by regular bus services.
[ This is an amazing caravan park which has everything, the bonus is were now out of season so half the price, even cheaper than staying in a national park!!!!! It has pools (several), a games room, tv room, camp kitchen with all mod cons which includes a coffee machine, free wifi!!!!! we had planned to stay just the 2 nights but have decided to stay an extra as we will be going self sufficient camping after this, so its a good time to fill up the water tanks and stock up on all thats needed and to get full use of the wi-fi whilst we have it. Whilst we've been here we have visited the Big Banana!!! We done the tour which was very informative and also enjoyed a lovely Banana split. We have been spending
a lot of time in the ocean as the weather has been consistently 27degs, the ocean is so warm even i am enjoying the surf! although a bit scared at first about diving under waves but it didn't take long to get some confidence. Our daily routine at the moment is, wake up (8.30 ish), have brekkie, swim in the ocean then a swim in the pool to rinse off, then a shower, shopping and a meal at the pub, not a bad way to spend ones day!!!!!!
