I know this is a travel blog site dedicated to our Big Lap in 2012 but I am going to be a bit narcissistic and commit this entry completely to our Wedding Day which occurred just over a week ago on Saturday March 3, in beautiful Coffs Harbour on the NSW North Coast. In fact I alluded to our wedding on our first post because in reality it is the initiating event that starts the Big Lap for real.
It was more of a wedding weekend than a day and it began on the Thursday when ourselves and many others made the journey to Coffs Harbour; we had rented a magnificent 3 story beach house called "Ticie by the Sea" for 4 days, so our friends and family could share as much time as possible with us over the weekend. People travelled from Toowoomba, Bomaderry, Sydney, Canberra and Glen Innes to be with us and we really appreciate the huge effort everyone made to be there. Of course, as in all weddings, there are special family and friends, that try as they might, could not be there, but we appreciated their messages of love and good will.
Thursday and
Friday were spent, welcoming our guests, and doing the final preparations for the ceremony on Saturday: In reality however there was little of that to do as Jennifer in her systematic and organized way had every little detail covered. I really can't take much credit at all and the success of the whole weekend lies in no small part to Jennifer's exceptional organizational skills. About the only thing out of her control was the weather, and, as is the case in Australia over the majority of this Summer, there was rain! We decided at the outset though that we would not let the weather dictate our happiness or the enjoyment we would have over the weekend. As it turned out the rain stopped at all the important times and did not affect things in the slightest.
On the Friday night Jen and her best friend Michelle Bates, spent the night, along with Suzannah, at the Novotel Pacific Bay Resort (the venue for the ceremony and reception) so they could enjoy all the girlie pre-nuptial preening that is a mystery to most of us blokes. A few of us boys went to a late screening of "Safe House" for some
wanton killing and violence ( bit weird really isn't it). It was a good movie though and after I had dropped off the last person I went to the Resort and spoke to Jen on the phone while she looked down from the balcony above, bit Romeo and Juliettish eh!
Saturday arrived and in no time at all, Will and I were donning our suits and making our way toward the Pacific Bay Resort for the 11:30am nuptials. Ps Peter Pilt from Nowra City Church, a great bloke with whom I have a growing friendship had come a long way to officiate on the day and we are really thankful for the bright and cheerful way he conducted the ceremony and how he interacted so warmly with our friends and family. If your a "churchie" and ever in Nowra you could do much worse than attending a service at Nowra City Church, generally you will find that Peter is the guy wearing some sort of costume??? (Nuff said).
Jennifer glowed radiant as she walked down the aisle and I quietly told myself to relax and enjoy all that was about to follow. Peter encouraged us that marriage was
about, Communication, Consideration, Courtship, Compromise and Christ ( see, I was listening) and after the vows, which Jen and I both wrote for each other, we became man and wife. We kissed for the first of many times that day; basically I kept clinking the glass so she would have too! (Not that I ever have to ask for kisses mind you!)
The reception meal was wonderful, out on the deck overlooking the water at Pacific Bay Resort, the food was excellent, the staff attentive and I believe everyone had an enjoyable time;I know we did! I also must mention the photography of Anton and Marrianne of North Coast photography, they were so professional and fun and we really enjoyed that part of the day: I think the photos speak for themselves!
By late afternoon, we all returned to Ticie and enjoyed a wonderful evening with all those who had travelled to be with us, this continued into Sunday and then alas, it was all over and people had to make their way home, but we are left with memories that will last for years of the important people in our lives who care enough about us to make our weekend special, thank you all so much!
Jen's parents kindly took Suzannah and Will home so Jen and I could enjoy a nice couple of days at Pacific Bay; though the rain kept us indoors for most of the time, we were not complaining!!!!
At the end of it all we headed back to Toowoomba to pick up the kids, pack the car for the final time and head off, for real this time, on our Big Lap of Australia. Friday 9th March saw us head for the Sunshine Coast and we are holed up at Bli Bli just near Maroochydore, however the rain has caught up with us again, not a promising start!
Next blog will be some of our adventures on the Sunny??? Coast. Enjoy the pics...
