The First Settler's to Australia
Gallery dedicated to the First Settlers Geo: -35.281, 149.149
We slept in until 9am which is unusual for us, a bit windy but the sun is shinning and we are ready for another day. Set off at 10.30am for the National Portrait Gallery.
Wonderful portraits of the famous Australian's like Dame Nelly Melba, The White Mouse - Nancy Wake, Gough Whitlam and heaps of others.
The In the Flesh exhibition was clever, charming and in some instances confronting. Very well done.
The High Court was a short walk from this and we had a good look around it, what a massive place and would be quite daunting for a lay person to be in court there, like the Kerrigans from The Castle.
The Art Gallery was another short walk across a bridge and we saw some remarkeable work, Ramingining artists The Aboriginal Memorial 1987-88,Claude Monet Meules, (Haystacks, midday) 1890, Sydney Nolan Stringybark Creek, Jackson Pollock Blue Poles 1952 and lots more.
We had lunch at the Art Gallery and while trying to leave we walked up to a lift pressed Lower Ground, to get back down to the parking, it stopped for a while so after pressing the phone and a few other buttons we got out on the same floor we
The White Mouse
Nancy Wake, "The only good Germans are the dead ones" had left from. Not good either of us when we are getting tired, Google maps has been a life saver for us getting to places we just have problems getting out of places.
We then drove to Old Parliament House where we had a good look around at the Senate, House of Reps, where the parties worked from and the Prime Ministers Suite, plus heaps of portraits of past Prime Ministers. The Behind the Lines exhibition was great which featured the best political cartoons for 2014.
