Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday dear Candy, Happy Birthday to ME !! I hit a huge milestone in my life today.............when I woke up this morning I was the big 40 !! I have been dreading it for a while now but knew that it was inevitable. It was coming whether I liked it or not. Many of my friends have already experienced turning 40 this year and they have tried their best to convince me to embrace it and enjoy it. Although I know it's just a number and you're only as old as you feel I just can't get past it. I'm gonna try and face today with a big smile on my face and just be thankful that I made it this far. I'm sure in time I will learn to accept it and be just fine. I would have never thought in a million years that I would wake up in Sheridan, Wyoming, in the Wal-Mart parking lot, on my 40th birthday. If someone would have told me that years ago, I would have laughed and thought they were crazy. We didn't really have any big plans for today all we knew
was that we needed to be in Cheyenne by nightfall. We were up and at it kinda early and ready to face the day. I went into the McDonalds at Wal-Mart to pick us up some breakfast and get Tim a cup of coffee and soon we were on our way. Tim hopped on I-25 southbound and off we went. He drove for a few hours but soon our journey to Cheyenne was interupted. Yep, we had another tire explode on us as we were driving 65 MPH on a major interstate. It scared the life out of me and Tim but luckily it was a back inside tire so Tim didn't lose control. He gently pulled off into the emergency lane so we could get out and see how much damage there was. Tim immediately noticed fluid dripping from behind the blown-out tire and opened the lower storage door to check it out. It looked as though a chunk of the tire hit the hydraulic pump to the jack system and caused a hole and we were losing our hydraulic fluid. He drained all the fluid, pulled off the pieces of lose tire and then we immediately got on
the phone looking for help. Thankfully we still had a spare tire left over from the last blow-out so we just needed someone to swap the tires out for us. We ended up finding a place about 10 miles down the highway and we slowly made our way there. They were super nice people and had the tires changed very quickly and only charged us $20.00. We were so thankful to them because they were just about to close and they waited for us to wobble in to their shop. Well that's not exactly what I had wished for on my birthday but it could have been so much worse. I'm just thankful that we were not hurt and Big Bertha survived with minimal damage. We don't really have to have the jack system so we're just going to worry about repairing it when we get home. After our mini fiasco, we were soon back on the road and headed for Cheyenne. Yesterday when Tim bought my fishing license he purchased me a two day pass so we were on the look-out for a great little fishing whole to stop at so I could wet my hook for a while.
We drove and drove but couldn't find anywhere until we came upon the Glendo State Park. The guy at the tire place had told us that he goes down there a lot so we decided to check it out. Tim drove up to the entrance booth and paid the $6.00 fee and off we went looking for a great place to catch a few fish. We drove through the park checking out every nook and cranny until we finally found the perfect place. Tim helped me gather my fishing pole, bait, chair and everything and he walked me down to the shoreline where I quickly made myself comfortable. He went back to the motorhome to work on a few things while I fished my little heart out. There were some other people who joined me at my spot and we just hung out and talked and tried our best to catch something. After about an hour or so with no luck, I decided to pack it all up and get on down the road. The fish were not even biting and the sun was beating down on me and it just wasn't the right time of the day I guess.
Even though I didn't catch anything, I had a great time just relaxing and chatting it up with the locals. We needed to make it to Cheyenne before it got too dark so we were soon back on the road. Tim drove straight through without stopping and before I knew it we were in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Cheyenne, Wyoming. There was a chinese restaurant in the shopping center next to us so we walked over and celebrated my birthday with a delicious dinner. After stuffing ourselves with egg rolls, crab rangoons and sweet & sour chicken, we waddled back to the motorhome and prepared ourselves for bed. Other than the minor accident this morning, I would say that I had a very relaxing and enjoyable 40th birthday today. I was overwhelmed with emails, text messages, phone calls and special birthday wishes from all of my friends and family. They all made me feel very loved and that's all I need. We'll see how I feel about being 40 tomorrow............good night Cheyenne !
