Stephenville, Texas is an interesting little town southwest of Ft. Worth. We heard about UFO sightings and traveled to the area. There were hundreds of sightings in 2008 by local citizens. However the Air Force contend the sightings were no more than training jets in the area. The national news media picked the story up and it even went nationally. The population in 2000 was 14921. The town is surrounded by ranches and farms and the area is primarily agricultural. There is a large sign on the courthouse square indicating that the area has tens of millions of dollars in milk production annually. The downtown is rather neat with a very neat courthouse. Unfortunately like many small towns the retail business in downtown has for the most part disappeared. Most retail fronts are now occupied by attorneys who can walk across the street to the court house. The town was settled in 1854 and by 1856 there were almost 800 citizens. Since the town was located in Comanche territory the community found itself begin raided often. Tarleton State University is located in this town.
