Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church
Church with the sun behind the church About 10 miles north of Karnes City on State Road 123 , in Karnes County is the old community of Cestohowa. You can see the tall church steeple for miles in all directions. Originally settled as the second Polish colony in Karnes County it was known as Sty. Joe when formally established in 1873. The Czestochowa settlers decided to build their own church. This building had been renovated several times. Very little else remains in the old community however there is a school that serves the church people. The church celebrated its 125th anniversary with a parish of 380 members. This is truly a site in the "middle of nowhere".
