coffee stop..
it's not just a brown/white sugar choice here... you get a massive array of 'stuff' to put in your coffee!! Hello again... it’s been a good long while (9 months?) since I last wrote a blog... thank you to those who are still reading them!! This one is going to be slightly different!!
I am not back in some far off exotic country, neither am I off gallivanting on my own for months on end. This time I am visiting a friend in Austin, Texas and then the two of us are flying to Cancun, Mexico where we are meeting a few others and spending 9 days diving – Heaven!
The people I am going with are all people who I’ve met on my many travels. Let me introduce them to you: Adam (who I’m staying with in Austin) is a British guy who did his dive master training with me at Blue Planet Divers, Thailand. Beany is a British girl who I met in Lembeh, Indonesia whilst diving with Two Fish (incidentally, my favourite diving spot so far!) Alex is a lovely American girl I met diving in Aqaba, Jordan last November – the last time I was off diving. And finally, Alma is a Mexican girl who worked at Blue Planet whilst I was training there. A

needing a little pre-flight sustenance I opted for a Columbo style bowl of chilli... it didn't disappoint! motley crew of dive masters keen to get back in the water!
I am to spend four days in Austin with Adam before meeting everyone else in Playa del Carmen where we stay in an apartment (with a pool!!.. see, not at all like my past travelling experiences!) then Beany, Adam and I return to Austin for a few more days before I return to London. Whilst Mexico is for diving, Austin is, in my mind, for eating... and so begins my travel/food blog!! Girl V Food!!!
Just to give you an idea of how seriously I am taking my self-appointed eating challenge, at Detroit airport I managed to sample the delights of ‘Chillis’ bowl of delicious, thick beef chilli with monteray jack cheese on top... a fabulous start.. I even crumbled crackers into, just like Peter Falk in Columbo! (A hero of mine!!) and of course photo'd it... be prepared for a LOT of food photos!!
I had a very easy flight over, although for one glorious moment I thought I was going to be upgraded (they told me they’d over booked the flight and they’d allocate me a seat at the gate) well my mum

South Congress looking up towards Capitol Building informed me that since I was wearing my mc hammer trousers they probably wouldn’t.. They didn’t... i’m sure it had nothing to do with my attire!!
At Detroit I had a layover of 3 hours, 4 once you factored in the delay and sat chatting to a lovely priest called George who was travelling with his two sons and 2 grand children. They were lovely and told me lots of places I should visit once in Austin.
Well after a fair few hours travelling I finally arrived in Austin, Texas where the lovely Adam was waiting for me.. and so it begins...
