Texas State Capitol
All of the state capitol buildings are modelled after the Capital Building in Washington. The Texas building is the only one that is the bigger--only in Texas The past weekend I flew to Austin to visit with Bev. Debbie and Bobby’s Alma mater, Kansas State was playing an American football game against the University of Texas. We are all K-State fans and although Bev and I were sorry that Debbie and Bobby couldn’t join us, we were determined to have a good time anyway.
Being a college town (as well as the Texas capital) Austin is a great town for young adults, they have a very active social life, lots of bars and places where young people can get together. There is also a lot of facilities for exercise, Bev and I made for the trail that has been developed beside one of the lakes for those who like to walk or jog. Bev does most of her exercise there and I have walked there before. What is quite amazing is the amount of people (mostly younger than I) that come out early in the morning, some with dogs, a lot with the strollers (pushchairs) that are designed to be pushed by a jogger. On Saturday I was really sorry not to have my camera because the rowing teams were out practicing and their oars are all
Lake Travis
This was the view from our table at lunch. painted with the Texas flag—a very attractive sight, and amusing because if there is an opportunity to display the Lone Star flag you can bet that Texans will grab it. Bev and I walked off a bunch of calories, went home to shower and then for a delicious Mexican lunch! Oh well……..
The Lyndon Baines Johnson Presidential Library and Museum is on the U.T. Campus in Austin so Bev suggested that I knock another Library off my list and we made our way there on Sunday. There is too much construction going on around the building for me to take a picture that would do it any justice, but it will be very impressive when it is complete. Of all U.S. presidents Lyndon Johnson’s name is synonymous with the murder of J.F.K. Johnson had been in politics since 1937 but certainly had a lot on his plate when he was appointed President on November 22nd, 1963.
We had a great weekend and the icing on the cake was that K-State WON!!
