A weekend road trip in May 2009 to the Talimena Scenic Byway in southeast Oklahoma provided many sterling sights, thanks to departing thunderstorms that occurred during the morning hours. For those in this region of the country, a road trip on this beautiful and very quiet highway is a must. Hiking opportunities abound here, as well, with good terrain exercise on the Winding Stair Mountain hike.

The trails were too muddy on this day, but the royal greens of the foliage and the ominous low-hanging clouds and fog clinging to the hillsides made this a perfect weekend outing.
