Sam
.... what I did a lot of ... The title can only mean one thing: I'm in
Bexley, Ohio. For those of you who are not familiar with this 2.5 square mile suburb inside of Columbus, it's where I spent my better days in high school hanging out with friends from BBYO. Bexley is its own unique little bubble world with perfect roads, lined by perfect houses, and lit up with perfect street lamps. Signs caution drivers to, "Slow down, let our children grow up." Honestly, it's a little frightening. Luckily, I'm fortunate enough to know some of the people inside the houses, so I know there are real people living in Bexley, not just perfect little robots.
The drive here was a little different. I drove through (yes, through) a couple mountains and West Virginia. I don't think I've ever been to West Virginia. I was tempted to stop to get gas or food, but I was also tempted to go in and out of the state as quickly as possible. So I crossed the massive Ohio river and officially returned to the great Midwest! I was a little worried about coming back, and this came out as car with Massachusetts plates passed me and I got really
Zak
.... what Zak did a lot of ... excited and wanted to immediately meet the driver. Then I realized we were both going well over 70 mph and a quick chat was the last thing he was probably interested in.
From there on, my car sort of steered itself straight in Zak F.'s driveway. As my old roadtrip buddy Amy M. can attest, coming to Bexley is like coming home. Nothing changes, and you know where everything is. There's a certain comfort in that that always gave us a warm fuzzy feeling the moment we hit I-70. This still holds true after all the years. I knocked on Zak's door and three seconds later I was up in the air. Now with my legs around his waist, with a brief "hi!" from both of us, the first question out his mouth wasn't "How are you?" or "How was the drive?" or "What have you been up to for the past two years?" but instead "Where are you gonna sleep tonight? Which bed?" And this is why I love my friends.
That was Friday. I spent the next three days and nights cuddling a lot. Zak went to work once I think (congrats on the job again
Looper
Looper playing the hiding panda game at Aladdin's again). There was lots of hanging out to be done. In the end, I think we did a pretty good job of it. Zak found that old journal that I had kept for 2-3 years for him so I got to read through that, and boy was I screwed up! But we all were/are. That's why we get along. I got to see Billy and Marty and Looper and Jen and life was beautiful. Bexley pleases with every visit.
... minus me exploding a pen in Zak's parents brand new dryer. In case you're wondering, nail polish remover apparently works wonders. (Sorry again about that!)
