As we drove thru NYC we realized that is is utterly amazing how many people live here. This trip was a whole different NY experience for us as we continued past the city and headed to a historical Westchester suburb, Tarrytown, NY. Our evening was capped off with a visit to Yankee stadium, the 5th to last game ever played in the house that Ruth built, Yankee Stadium RIP. It was a memorable experience, and it made us even more excited to be moving to Boston! 29 Miles traveled in the day. 3,407 miles total. 495E to 9AN to 87N to 287W.... read more

Today I'm just getting the last of my things together for Japan. One of them is this blog. Not too much going on with this post, just getting something down so the blog activates. I do want to thank everyone for their best wishes. I'm going to miss everyone back at home and I hope this blog makes communication a little easier.... read more

So I am counting down the days until my departure and getting ready for my second great trip in the past year and a half. Given my candidacy for a “legitimate job,” I should probably say this is my last great trip for a while. But with a bad economy, good health, and an amazing summer job, why not continue to leverage my two greatest assets: disposable income and time. My buddy Lee and I have tried to design a trip with a very loose itinerary, not necessarily planning any stops, simply check points. We know we are flying into Cancun, Mexico on September 22nd, and need to make it to Panama City, Panama by October 2nd for a flight into Lima, Peru. In Central America we want to see a few Mayan Ruins, and also ... read more

Dear All, Lessons Learned: GPS systems are not always accurate. Traffic in big cities may delay estimated time between schools. Plan on visiting no more than two schools in one day. Having said this, I did make it to all three schools today, but it was an adventure! Haverford was not a part of my satellite mapping system. My notes for University of Pennsylvania, Swarthmore and Haverford follow in short form. UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA www.upenn.edu Information Session This urban campus located in the heart of Philadelphia is a safe and BEAUTIFUL campus. The campus is walker-friendly. You can walk from one end of the campus to the farthest end in 15 minutes. There are four schools within the university (Nursing, Engineering, Business and Arts and Sciences) Penn is known as a “social Ivy” because students are ... read more

Are you looking to explore New York, Los Angeles, Charlotte, Houston, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Denver or San Francisco in a different way? How about signing up for an Avon Walk for Breast Cancer! All you need are some fundraising skills, a fervent passion for this cause, the desire to see one of its host cities in a different way, and maybe a little bit of crazy. Why? Because it's 39.3 miles over two days with a mandatory $1800 fundraising goal. But oh, is it worth it. My friend, Jess, and I are signed up for this year's New York City walk, to take place October 6th and 7th. It's our first year, and it's certainly a learning experience. I'm excited to explore New York solely on foot, and spend the night in a tent (well, ... read more

I landed last night in Philadelphia nearly 2 hours late, and stayed up quite late, so I was exhausted this morning when I woke up. My mom & sister & I did the big drive up from Philly to White Plains, for Kysa's surprise wedding shower. It was great- lots of old friends to celebrate the imminent arrival of her big day with Arin (check out this blog in August for an update!). I got to meet his parents, and also catch up with my school friends from Princeton. We went into NY city afterwards, and had a great dinner out with Bootsy, Brad, Jane & Dwyer. ... read more

UntitledTommorow is the day we leave for Coppenhagen. Wow... Europe, eight weeks, its not something i can quite wrap my head around yet. How can you ever really account for every variable, every twist and turn. Im excited for a few things, no cell phone being the first that comes to mind. Being able to be productive wasting a day just wondering around a city. Spending time disregarding all the great travel tips and finding my own best kept secrets along the way. What really comes to mind are the words of Mark Twain ( I had to look it up to get it exactly right) "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away ... read more

The countdown has begun. Just four days now and we will head back to India. It saddens me to say that this is probably the last blog of this trip. The last three months have been a smorgasbord of experiences. A flurry of colours. A veritable feast of the senses. A few great places, many memorable experiences and wonderful people. Now that the three months are over, it seems difficult to recapture those million moments in a dialog box. We came when there was still colour in the trees, we watched the leaves dislodge slowly till they stood bare. And now when we are leaving, they rewarded us with a sheet of white. Just when we had given up, we finally experienced the first measurable snowfall of the season. A quarter inch of pleasure. In today’s ... read more

After a month-long preparation ( and a visa-application wait of 3 months for me ) we’re finally here for 3 months. Sounds like a long time but I know it will go by in a flash. The journey from Bangalore to New York was too long …made more uncomfortable by the 5 hr wait in Mumbai. Stopover in Paris could have been a breather ‘cept that the French do not allow you to disembark !! well to cut a long story short..we arrived at our hotel in white plains ( about 30 miles north of Manhattan) totally exhausted….next morning we set about exploring our neighborhood on foot Few things which I observed as a first time traveler to U.S. from India: a)Its cold. Yeah even colder than Delhi winters. ( of course this is just the ... read more
