Your typical American fair picture. Pretty much sums it all up - rides and fried food.
One of those "quick, close to home" blogs. The Hudson Valley/ Westchester county is just around the corner from us.

We'll start with one of our favorite restaurants - THE INN AT POUND RIDGE in Pound Ridge. We are not quite regulars yet, but we are as close as it gets. A Jean-George concept restaurant in an old house. Really relaxed with a great big fireplace. I am pretty sure we have been through every item on the menu, but here goes. When we dined at The Mark in NYC (another of his restaurants) we had the black truffle pizza and it was instant love for Nikkie. Luckily they also serve the black truffle and fontina pizza here so we generally get this as an appetizer. It is really, really good. We generally start with either a couple glasses of prosecco or a good glass of Captain Lawrence, Kronenburg, or Dales Pale Ale beer. Other appetizers we have tried was the warm olives w/ balsamic vinegar (good) and kabocha toast (really good and different). For entrees one of our favorites is the parmesan crusted organic chicken w/ artichokes and a lemon-basil sauce (really well cooked and absolutely delicious) which is

probably one of the best chicken dishes we have ever had. We've also tried the fettuccini w/ caramelized brussel sprouts and basil-pistachio pesto (good), slowly baked salmon w/ shaved brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, truffle vinaigrette (very small portion, but good), the roasted hake w/ tender broccoli, grated ginger and dressing with chervil and mint (good), and caramelized beef tenderloin w/ crispy onions, herbal spinach, gruyere sauce (ok). For desserts we have tried the spiced pumpkin creme brulee w/ pomegranate sorbet (amazing), chocolate cake w/ toasted marshmallow frosting (not the greatest but very different with the marshmallow frosting) and salted caramel sundae w/ candied popcorn, peanuts, and fudge sauce (too sweet). The stars here are the chicken and the pizza.

A couple years back we made the trek all the way up to Rhinebeck for the DUTCHESS COUNTY FAIR and man do they not mess around. It is huge (by east coast standards). They have the standard and customary animal displays. They have lots and lots of animals. They also have the usual set-up of people selling stuff and competitions of paintings, knitted items and then the livestock. One of the highlights is the piggy races around the track. They

do a pretty good job at this. They have a big selection of rides and then food stalls that feels like it stretches for miles and miles. A pretty awesome fair (I must say) and well worth the visit.

Next up is just a couple more restaurants we have frequented in this time. Lefteris Gyro in Tarrytown is our favorite choice for Greek food. Great owner who welcomes everyone and makes sure you are taken care of. Good food at very reasonable prices. We love the salad and lamb.

We stopped in at Serafina in White Plains one night. We started with chardonnay/ sauvingon blanc. For an appetizer we had the Bufaline Con Pomodori which is imported Italian buffalo mozzarella served w/ sliced tomatoes (awesome). Entrees were Farfalle Al Limoncello which is baby shrimps w/ lemon zest, lemon juice and a touch of cream (really good) and the pasta special which was pumpkin ravioli w/ pesto (good). We finished it all up with Sgroppino which is a scoop of lemon sorbet and a touch of prosecco and cappuccino. A good meal.

Last but not least (yeah I said this was short) is the Rye Grill & Bar

in Rye. We went one Sunday afternoon for brunch and had the French toast (good) and steak and eggs (actually a really good steak and good potatoes). Definitely would recommend for brunch. There definitely is a lot more to this area as previously described in another blog, but we just have a hard time finding the time to make it happen. Maybe going forward we'll do a better job to better explore this area.

That's pretty much it. Nothing to cross-off so still 282 down and 5,499 to go.

Til' next time from black truffle pizza heaven
