This week's big news is that i finally bought a digital camera, so maybe the next post will have pictures on it, but more on that subject later.
Last shabbat was, again, laid back, and ended with a staff bonefire which was very short, but a last oppertunity to hang out with all the rest of the staff before the first round of real camp participants arrive (the week before it was just a convention). the next day, camp opening day, was really busy for everybody exept for us, security guards. so since i had nothing better to do i walked to the supermarket, about 35 miunte walk for each direction - the sun was shining, the people on the way (farmers - with very expensive cars on the garage next to the horses! , bycicle riders...) smiled at me, the road was nice and every few minutes passed a group of big-ass harleys with big-ass&mustache riders on them - that was, i guess, another classic american experience.
During this week, whenever i didn't have to catch up on my sleeping and was bored i started going to classes (jewish studies, social action, this kind of stuff). overall the classes here are pretty interesting and sometimes the level is surprisingly high (though almost all of the amusing remarks come from me) - the kids here are overall curious and not stupid.
On wensday i drove with Ben (who's a rabbinical student and overall one of the coolest guys around here) to Middletown (the mall i wrote about last time). about a minute after we left started a crazy thunder and rain storm (the weather here is absoloutly crazy! in 10 minutes it can go from hot as hell to thunder and rain storm), that added to the adventurous asoect of this trip. we got a little lost and pulled at a gas station to ask for directions, came to best-buy (a big electricity store), looked at cameras, and i wanted to check also in circuit-city (another big electricity store), which was hard to find because it's a huge area full of huge stores that all look the same and very hard to navigave between. the cameras selection there wasn't as good, so we headed back to best-buy, again got a little lost and ended up coming to the same gas station (even though we didn't even think it was in that area)! eventually we got there 5 minutes before closing time and i finally bought my camera (if you're interested - canon powershot a560 + 2gb memory card for 230$). and now i appreciate Ben even more ofr putting up with me (:
On thursday i woke up to a 'fire drill' - one of the other guards accidently turned on the fire alarm, so annoying! after thursday dinner, just like last week, a lot of people from camp got 'kilkul keiva' (not really including me). they told us that it can't be from the food so i guess people here are just alergic to thursdays!
Overall you can see that i don't do too much around here, so i got into vacation mode - most of the time i just enjoy the sun and the nice view...
