The Journey Begins
4:30 am, and 2 hours of sleep I'm off to the airport. The first flight is full, and I'm stuck in the middle seat.
Suppose it didn't matter, seeing as I slept through the flight anyway. The second leg, from Minneapolis to New
York, for some reason was surprisngly empty. So upon walking to the back of the plane to my assigned seat,
which I insured was an aisle seat, and noticing I had someone beside me, I immediately spoke to the flight
attendant to check on my options for switching seats. She said no problem, and an about face behind me, I
had all 3 seats behind first class to myself. The leg room was equal to that of First Class...but then I slept
again anyway.
Ahh New York, New York. No snow, and I'm lugging around Heath's ski's and boots (in 80's hot pink and green
bags), my backpack, daypack, oh what joy.
On Friday I was off to New York, about a 45 minute ride from Tarrytown. Of course, the walk to the Train
Station from Heath's is about another 50 minutes. Thankfully I got the honk about 25 into the walk, perhaps it
was the lack of a sidewalk, the cold, but he pulled over and I squeezed in with his family and another hitcher
who was dropped off about halfway to the station.
Hopped off the train at Harlem and 125th and kicked it over to 110th and Central Park West before hoppin on
the Subway to the Natural History Museum. Saw a few more sections that I missed last time, they do a really
good job with displaying stuffed animals from various regions of the world. And because I paid as I wished
($2), the 4 special sections were off limits...and unlike the MET, you still need a ticket to get in, so it's not so
easy to pay $0.
After which it was back on the Subway to get down to 17th Street Photo to buy an underwater housing. After
getting detoured (since it was just down the street) to Rub BBQ, 17th Street Photo was closed, so I'll have to
hit them tomorrow morning...hopefully I'll get to bed before to long as it is currently 2:50 am and Heath is still
at the office. Rub BBQ is one of the most celebrated restaurants for slow cooked pork products. So I had the
rarely available burnt tips and the pulled pork. Neither of which was all that spectacular for my tastes. Sure it
was tender, but taste is important, and I don't find burnt fat, and pulled pork with the taste of malt vinegar all
that appealing.
To finish off the night we hit the Knicks Sixers game, unfortunately by the time Heath arrived it was half time,
and by the time we got down to courtside seats it was nearing the end of the 4th, but the KNICKS WON, an
amazing feat LOL.
