Hello All,
Welcome to my blog. This is my first real blogging experience -- hiphip. The first adventure that we will experience together is NYC! It was a pretty spur of the moment trip, but fabulous. Evan and I left on a redeye on Sunday May 14, arriving into JFK airport at 6:30 Monday morning. This being Evans first trip to New York City we were on the go from the moment we got there, (minus my nap during rush hour traffic on the way to Quincy and Chloe's Brooklyn apartment).
Day 1 - Monday March 15
- immediately after arriving their cute apartment, we head out for breakfast, delicious bagels and coffee.
- its pretty rainy outside but not very cold, it didn't seem to lessen our morale, we were pretty stoked to be there.
- we made a game plan for the day and jumped on the subway and headed to the Moma (Museum of Modern Art). It was sooo neat. Tim Burton was the artist on display, his drawings, sculptures, and cartoons were all a little odd but extremely interesting to see and most was really neat.
- next we went to Carnegie Deli and had
the largest pastrami sandwiches EVER. They were delicious. (look at the pictures)
- By about 2 pm I was too pooped to party and decided it was best to go to sleep before I 'lost my cool'
- After our bomb ass nap we went to the Coop where Chloe shops/works-- It was soo different. I have never been to a food co-op before, I wish there was one in Boulder, its such a smart idea. We shopped and got dinner fixings for 4 people for $20.
- We enjoyed a delicious pasta dinner and wine and passed out.
Day 2 - Tuesday March 16
- I could not wake up early. When I finally woke up we went outside to realize that it was almost 70 degrees!! SO we: went to Union Square and walked around, went to Grand Central Station and walked all the way down 5th Avenue to Central Park, stopping at the NYC Public library which was MASSIVE with beautiful ceilings - some reminded me of Italy with huge murals while some were completely engraved Cedar which was splendid and smelt good too. Once we made it to Central Park we rented bikes and road
around for about an hour. It was AWESOME. I had a tiny hissy fit before I got my butt on the bicycle but it was awesome. We didn't even make it to the 'large' lake even though we thought we did -- (we didn't realize we didnt until we went to the 'Top of the Rock' and got a better look at the whole park). I was surprised to notice that there were cars going through parts of the park. Those lucky people in the car got an awesome view of my BUTT.. haha. After the short time in the park, we hustled over to 'Top of the Rock' - top of Rockafellar Center. Evan found out, by reading his NYC guidebook, that this place has better views than the Empire State building. We went up there really close to sunset and it was stunning. You can see EVERYTHING. Check out the pictures below! SO SWEET. After this we hustled back to Brooklyn, through the lit up Time Square and went to dinner with Quincy and Chloe at the Blue Ribbon. It was restaurant week in Brooklyn-- similar to that of Boulder and Denver-- 3 courses for $25 bucks.
-
In all a fantastic day. Got myself nice and tuckered out and passed out around midnight.
Day 3 - Wednesday March 17 - St. Patty's Day
- Yet again it was a STUNNING DAY! Crazy asses Chloe and Evan woke up EARLY to go for a RUN. I lifted my head far enough to grab my camera and take a picture of the retards. haha! NOT FOR ME. When they got back we went into Manhattan to watch what we thought would be the end of the St. Patty's Parade down 5th Ave.
- We sure were mistaken. The parade turned out to be the longest St. Patty's Parade in history, coming to a close 9 HOURS after it started. We enjoyed the festivities with a multitude of Jameson and Bailey's Coffees. Ate packed lunches in the Trump Tower, met up with Eli at his model UN conference at the Hilton, walked through Chinatown , SOHO, the East Village and ended up at the best Italian food this side of the Atlantic, Lil Franky's. IT WAS DELICIOUS. The gnocci melted in my mouth. Drank a few glass's of wine and just was STUFFED.. not just USA stuffed.... like ITALY
stuffed. Those who have been to Italy know what I'm talking about. After that delicious meal we decided to go back to Brooklyn and kick it, in sweat pants.. haha with 'give'.
- So unlike me not to rage for my Irish folk-- but day drinking will do that to ya.
Day 4 - Thursday March 18 - Last Day
- Woke up late again - I am on vacation right!
- Went to lunch with Lauren picked up food from this delicious little spot called Nectar. I had a Portabello wrap with Avocado and a smoothie. It was so dank. Showed Evan her neighborhood and at lunch at Cobblehill Park, which was infested with little kids and crazy moms. After lunch Lauren pointed us in the right direction of Brooklyn Bridge we said our goodbyes and headed down the promenade towards the Dumbo and the Brooklyn Bridge. IT was a beautiful day, as you can see from the pictures. I took a nap in Brooklyn Park, right in Dumbo, while Ev ran around with his camera. We ate a quick bite to eat at a Pizzeria for some real NY slices. It was yummy. Then headed down the
Brooklyn Bridge. Seriously I think this was my favorite thing we did. It was SO FUN! I did almost get killed by the crazy bike riders (word to the wise: don't mess with them) but besides that it was really really sweet. After this we walked down Wall St. and thru the financial district down to Battery Park where Evan took pictures of the St. of Liberty. We hustled back to Quincy and Chloes to drink wine and stand on their rooftop for the spectacular sunset. We enjoyed Quincy's famous shrimp tacos for dinner and finished the night off with more wine, shots of tequila for the boys and Cribbage.
Day 5 - Friday March 19
- Woke up at 6:45 and headed to Laguardia Airport.
- Short and sweet trip! TOTALLY FANTASTIC
