A few days ago I got back to Kansas after taking a week-long trip that culminated in me camping in Yellowstone National Park. I wanted to share some pictures, but unfortunately, I haven't gone through them yet. At some point in the near future, I'll make a post of nothing but pictures to show off share my trip with you. In the meantime, I wanted to post to talk about some of the struggles I faced while traveling. Before I begin, I should clarify. I don't mean struggles in a woe is me type of way. I was able to spend a week bouncing around five states and camping in Yellowstone. It's something that a majority of Americans can't do. If you think about it, 99.99999% of every person that has ever lived has not been ... read more

I've always had a fascination with the bizarre, dark corners of humanity. When I was a kid, I poured over every piece of information I could find about the Unabomber. Before that, I had a morbid interest in Jeffrey Dahmer. Horror movies were always playing in the background; even to this day, there's nothing better than sitting in a dark room and watching a scary movie. I love studying conspiracy theories, aliens, and ghost reports, even though I'm not a big believer in them. I don't like these things because I'm a dark person. Like I said, I don't believe that Area 51 isn't holding aliens, and to be honest if it wasn't, it wouldn't interest me that much. What interests me is what makes people believe these things. What causes someone to consume themselves in ... read more

I've gotten this idea over the past few weeks that when I get out of college I want to travel around the world. I'm not really sure how to make that happen, but where there's a will, there's a way, as the saying goes. I did the same thing on a smaller scale when I graduated high school. I went to high school in South Carolina. My family was pretty poor, so the only vacations I took was to the exotic lands of Greenville SC and Charleston. I wanted to get out and see the country to experience things from other perspectives, so I hopped on a greyhound and moved around for two years, spending a few weeks in new locations and working odd jobs to pay for hotel rooms, food, and money to get to ... read more

In my last article, I teased this one a little bit by saying that I wanted to write about possible trends in traveling over the next year or two. To tell you the truth, I don't even know if trends is the correct word. Maybe observations? Hopes? Who knows. It's my responsibility to write, and yours to judge. The problem arose that there's only one trend that made me want to write this. So what should I title this article/blog? Whatever title you read, I promise that I didn't put it in the box until the very end. A little insight into the writer's mind for a moment: we get too cute for our own good sometimes. I'm about to spend half of this article discussing the marketing genius of a cartoon mouse, and the second ... read more

I'm a history nerd. It was my major in college and obsession as a kid. I don't believe in the idea that "history repeats itself." It's an assertion that implies that things are meant to be. Nothing that has ever happened HAD to. There didn't have to be a World War 2. The Roman Empire didn't have to exist. British imperialism wasn't "destined to fail." Things happen because people are independent and make decisions based off of their needs and desires. History is unpredictable because history is the study of people, not events. Thus the reason I love history: it's people-centric. Studying people and their motivations interest me. The same holds true when I travel. I look at a place's historical significance and the people when I go somewhere. I want to know where the people ... read more

I've decided to start a travel blog! A little about me...I live in Kansas. I love to travel, and Kansas being in the middle of the United States makes it a little easier on me financially. When I'm not traveling, I write for a living. I haven't written my great travel book yet, but I plan on it. I also planned to play in the NBA , so we'll see. I'll be back soon with something that resembles travel more and rambling less. Gabe... read more
