Indiana University, located in Bloomington, IN, is one of the best music schools in the country, or maybe even the world. It was really great to see it. I have a friend who is a piano performance major there, who I met while in Vienna, so I went to visit her for a few days during my spring break. I got to hear a lot of piano music, of course, while hanging out with her! We went to a John Adams concert, which was pretty amazing (China Gates, Phrygian Gates, and Hallelujia Junction for Two Pianos were played -- I had only heard of Phrygian Gates) as well as a master class for some people entering a competition to play the Brahms Piano Concerto no. 2 (the really well-known one... and *very* scary and hard one!) ... read more

If you're reading this, you already know I'm studying for a semester in Hong Kong. For those who are interested, this will be the best way to keep up with me while I'm gone. I'll give everyone a little intro to me and why I chose Hong Kong. I'm a senior at Indiana University studying Marketing and International Business. Part of that requirement is that I study abroad somewhere. I have always wanted to go to Africa, and I tried to choose that as my destination. It turns out, Kelley (School of Business) doesn't have a program there and so I decided on Hong Kong. I thought it would be a good place to push me out of my comfort zone and to have some great experiences. I leave Januray 6th and I get back May ... read more

Next stop: Bedford, Indiana. Yep, the home of Indiana Limestone. It also was the home of more caverns! yay! This time, our cavern tour was entirely by boat. Yep, we went down into the US's longest underground river. We bumped along in a big metal tub with our guide, a boat light and a flashlight. It was a little funny, but very cool. We learned a lot about the ecosystem that can exist in complete darkness, and the oddities that have adapted to teh lack of light. There were little transparent fishies that are blind, crayfish that can live for three year without food by eating thier own claws (they wait for food to come in with flooding), and bats and frogs that come in in the winter to escape the freeze. It stays a chilly ... read more

We got a early start on Saturday morning, finishing a lot of last minute packing and loading of the Outback, our transportation for this trip. Doug and I had stayed up relatively late working on preparations for the trip, so we were dragging at first. It was a nice morning - the sun was out and it was warm, but with the promise of getting hot and sticky before the day was over. We finally loaded the last bag, said good-bye to the cats one last time, double-checked the lights were off and doors & windows locked, snapped a picture of the three of us and took off. We were stocked up with bottled water and a variety of snacks to help save money and reduce the number of stop we had to make. We ... read more

My husband (Doug), my stepson (Nick) and I are planning our longest road trip thus far - 12 days - taking us from our home in Bloomington, Indiana to Bangor, Maine to visit with family. It's not a great time to be driving so far with how expensive gas is, but I wanted to make this trip last summer and we weren't able to, so I'm not letting gas prices stop us this year. Along the way, we're planning some side trips to keep things interesting and to break up the long stretches of road between here and Maine. In general, this Route Map gives an idea of where we're headed. Tentative Itinerary: Day 1 - (June 2, 2007) Hit the road and travel almost 600 miles to Niagara Falls. Day 2 - Visit Niagara Falls ... read more
