An example of a modern day philosopher was Jenni Rivera. She was one of the first Latina artists to have her first album as number one in the billboard top 100 for Latino artists. During the time of her life she helped raise independence and helped raised awareness for victims of domestic violence. What makes Jenni Rivera a modern day philosopher is that being a woman, especially Latina women, to have your voice heard and hard to be taken seriously is very difficult. She, however, showed women to be more independent and strong. She showed women that raising her five children alone after divorcing her two husbands. She can also be considered as a modern day philosopher because she became increasingly involved in charity work. She became the spokeswoman for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence charity. Because of her continuous charity work, the city of Los Angeles officially named August 6th Jenni Rivera day. On December 9th, 2012 was the death of Jenni Rivera. She died from a plane that crashed on its way to Toluca, Mexico for an appearance on a television show. Even though Jenni Rivera will be dearly missed, she left her mark on the Latino world as well as the
charitable world.
