Animism is the belief that inanimate objects or animals have the ability to possess a spiritual essence. This is usually practiced in third world countries and continents such as Africa. Animism was created by Sir Edward Taylor. He redefined the meaning to be an animist, by saying that plants and animals are all originated by a supernatural presence. Animist have created populations around flocks of animals or a certain plant because they believe that they will be holy or blessed by being able to praise the plant more easily. Taylor believed that people who first began the religion were simple minded and primitive, so he began to tell his followers that they should lessen the amount of animals and crops they praise. There is ongoing disagreement (and no general consensus) as to whether animism is merely a singular, broadly encompassing religious belief or a worldview in and of itself, comprising many diverse mythologies found worldwide in many diverse cultures.
