STILL FIGHTING FOR OUR RIGHTS
There were five images of 2011 that caught my eye. The first one was the image of the first gay couple to get married in New York. The reason that this caught is eye is because I think that gay/lesbians have a right to get married. Its a lifestyle choice for someone to get married with whoever they want, and I don't think that the government should legally influence of way of life. Gay marriages do not harm anyone. Some people may be against gays and lesbians, but not everyone is going to agree with each other. That's the beauty of living in a free country where everyone can have their own opinion. However, I don't think those opinions should really influence if a person can married with the person they love or not.
NATURAL DESTRUCTION
The next image that I chose was one of a neighborhood before and after a tornado. I stared at this photo for a while, trying to make sense of the disaster that occured. There are no long any trees, or houses, and you can clearly see what there is for miles.... destroyed homes. Natural disasters are amazing in the sense that no one can do anything about them, and all of have is all that nature leaves us with. I think this really represented a lot of the other natural disasters that occured in 2011 because we can see the before and the after.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE
I felt the need to include the picture above because it seemed so much more personal, and it was shocking to me when I first looked at it. She is a woman who attempted to commit suicide after her wedding was cancelled because her fiance decided not to go through with it. I felt that this picture was appropriate to include because, to me, it represents the personal things that others had to go through. Some people had a very hard year as the would have been bride must have had. However, I feel that this picture could also represent the good in people's lives because she seems at peace and looks a bit angelic. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I feel that this picture could demonstrate grace and turmoil.
HOLDING ON
I chose the picture above because I thought there was some signifigance to it. There is, again, a natural disaster that occured, but the woman is still holding on as we all have to do when any natural disaster happens. I was a having discussion with my dad about these picture, and he said that the ones that stood out to him were the ones with natural disasters in them. He pointed out that although we do have all of these riots and personal and political events occuring, none of that really matters when a natural disaster happens. If there is a tornado, earthquake, or tsunami, no one has enemies and everyone is helping each other survive. Everyone is holding on just as the woman is doing.
THE END OF THE WORLD...... AGAIN
I chose this picture when I read the caption because this man is talking about the end of the world. Throughout 2011 we have been hearing about or at least becoming more away of the end of the world. We all know about the supposed end of the world in 2012. Well the man above, Harold Camping, predicted a different end of the world on May 22, 2011. This makes me wonder.... will world really end in 2012 or is it just another claim like the May 22 or y2k and other disasters that were prophesized to occur?

I would say that the image above described my year personally in 2011. I was being more artistic that year and was drawing and painting a lot more as well as surrounding myself in new music. As you can see in the picture, there are CDs and drawings. My year, however, wasn't perfect. There were a few hard decisions I had to make and few things that left me a bit depressed wich is represented by the person having their had down in their arms. However bad the problems i faced were, I didn't let them keep me down which I feel is best represented by the wings.

Pictures very valuable recourses for historians to have. Picture offer visuals of what life was like in those days. Also, it shows the different materials used, the customs, clothes, food, living condition, and much more. When I went to the feild museum, my brother asked a women that worked there why the native americans would draw the pictures of the horses and people. The person at the museum explained that the picture was a way for the native americans to record stories and events because they didn't have a form of writing. When I was at the Art Institute I came across a gallery filled with photography. Each photo had three women in it but each photo was in a different time period ranging from 1900 to the 1970s. I learned a lot just from looking at the photos the types of clothes worn, where they stood, how they stood, what they were doing, and so on. If I could learn a lot from a few photos, I'm sure that historians could do more with them.
