Ancient Rome: Family Life and Education

Family life:
The ruler of the household was the oldest male. He would have the total authority to make the most important decisions. Females did not have any rights. They weren't considered citizens of Rome. Their only job was to have children and to take care of the house. Children were taught to obey their elders. If they didn't show respect to an authority figure, they would be kicked out the house.

Education:
If the mother knew how to read and write, she was forced to teach her children too. Rich Romans, put in a lot of fait towards their education, and even less fortunate people received a slight education. Schools were generally for boys only; they attended a school for reading and writing until a certain age, then they went to another school just for public speaking. Girls received an education, but only in the home.
