My article argues that The Veterans Administration care system is not providing enough mental care for the Veterans. About 75 % of the Veterans seek mental care outside of the system. The author of this article supports the Veterans Mental Health Initiative.Approximately 16% of returning veterans in New York have PTSD and 16% have major depression. Furthermore, the author of the article believes we have the responsibility to care for the men and women who risk their lives for our country. Since service members returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from high rates of suicide and behavioral health disorders, the intent of the New York City Counsel Veterans Mental Health Initiative is to confront the high rates of suicide and behavioral health problems among returning veterans by expanding support and outreach efforts. The author feels this initiative will meet the needs of returning veterans and their families.
