Roman Marriages and Divorces:
Marriages were arranged between families to improve their social rank and wealth. Girls would get married in their teenage years and the guys would get married in their mid twenties. You have to be a roman citizen or needed special permission called "Conubium". Slaves couldn't marry Citizens. Citizens could not marry prostitutes, actresses, or close relatives. Soldiers could only marry under certain conditions. Marriage was a personal agreement. Divorces normally happen in the upper class. If a wife was unfaithful and her husband divorced her, then she couldn't re-marry and could have half her dowry. However, if the husband was unfaithful it didn't matter. Seven witnesses had to be there to declare the divorce. If the woman divorced, then she can fully have her dowry.
