The Daily Dose
People don’t always have the time or opportunity to get outside every day. That is why I created The Daily Dose. The Daily Dose is a glimpse into nature, to keep you in touch with the out of doors until you get out in it yourself. The Daily Dose may include a story, or, at minimum, a couple beautiful pictures of Outside. As you look at each picture, I encourage you to engage your senses. Imagine what it might smell like there. Is it a redwood forest? Eycalyptus? Then imagine the temperature. Does it look hot? Breezy? Really take a step outside and get your Daily Dose!
WALK DATE: TODAY, San Rafael Tuesdays are a busy day for me so I decide to get my Daily Dose on at lunch time. I walk the few blocks to downtown where the bank and food choices are. It’s hot today. I’m over dressed, not having looked into the weather forecast before leaving this morning.
Any walk, no matter how short in downtown San Rafael is sure to provide a colorful display of humanity. San Rafael is a tolerant mecca for the homeless and mentally ill. You also encounter all other colors, shapes and sizes here as well, so it’s nice. Mostly.
San Rafael is an eclectic town with a lot of good food, some live music, great boutique shops, if you’re into that. Lately there are a ton of Tibetan and Indian stores cropping up. My pet peeve with San Rafael is the drivers. They just do not want to stop for pedestrians. And if they do stop, they’re edging up on you before you’re out of the crosswalk. I don’t walk slow and it’s hard for me to imagine those seconds really matter. Do they?
A lot of stores have
gone out of business over the years. More crop up eventually. It’s surprising because the downtown area is always bustling. Maybe the rents are too high? Mismanagement?
So I decide to head for Falafel Hut for some takeout. They have homemade falafel, but I’m going for the beef and lamb shwarma. Mmm. The Arabic channel t.v. is always on here and today it’s a music video. Interesting because the women are clearly being “sexy” while they dance in the video, but they are nearly fully covered with clothes, revealing maybe only a shoulder. And the movements are, again, sexy, but not the “in your face” type seen on America t.v.. The service is somewhat slow so I have time to watch the Arabic channel, where else am I going to see it! The good news is that the service is slow because they’re actually cooking the food, rather than just reheating it. It’s worth the wait.
The Falafel Hut is a family run business and they seem to all work well together. The male patrons here are all greeted with a jubilant “My friend!” The female patrons much more cordially. FINALLY I get my food and make the
walk back to the office. I’ve eaten here several times and this time is no different, the food is delicious.
On a note about my blog - I learned that the blog site cannot auto publish, which means on days I am away there will be no blog. Which means I need to change the name! Perhaps it shall become A Regular Dose. Or an Occasional Dose. Please comment with any name suggestions you have!
I will indeed continue to get my Daily Dose of Outside and encourage you to do the same!
I hope you enjoyed this version of The Daily Dose
Please feel free to share this blog with anyone you feel benefit from a little Daily Dose!
