Today was our final full day in Santa Barbara before moving north to San Francisco. As next week will be quite busy with various different places that we plan to visit in San Francisco, today was our last opportunity to relax and have a bit of a lazy day.
We had a lie in and didn't wake up until around 10am, and we took our time getting ready, knowing that we had planned to talk to our families on Skype at around dinner time, so there wasn't much point going out just to come back shortly after. We watched some TV and then went on Skype at around 12:30pm and chatted to our families on there for a while.
By the time we were done, it was around 1:30pm and we were absolutely starving as we had not eaten anything all day. We had seen an Indian buffet place on State Street the previous day, and we both fancied a curry, so we walked down to the shuttle bus stop and jumped on the next one that came along.
We got off at 'Indian House', as it was called, and went and sat down. The inside was decorated
in traditional Indian fashion, with various different statues, pictures and hanging materials covering the walls of the place. There were also cushions on the floor that you could sit on to eat, but we chose to sit at a table, afraid of dropping it all over us! We grabbed a plate and went to see what was on offer. There were various different curries; chicken jalfrezi, beef jalfrezi, chicken korma, tandoori chicken and a few different vegetable/chickpea curries. There were also naan breads and papadums available, and two different types of rice. We filled our plates, poured ourself some water and sat down to eat. It was pretty delicious and we helped ourselves to a bit more until we were absolutely stuffed and couldn't eat anymore!
We paid and left, then walked to the shuttle stop outside. Emma had noticed earlier that a guy had got on and asked for a transfer for the waterfront shuttle bus (a different bus that goes along the beach rather than up and down State Street), and that this seemed to be free. When the bus arrived, we checked this with the driver, who said that this was correct. So essentially, we paid
25c for two buses, absolute bargain!
Once down by the beach, we used our transfer ticket to get onto the Waterfront shuttle (which looked exactly the same as the other shuttle) and just sat on it - using it as a sightseeing bus, basically! - until it reached the end of the line (which was by the little Santa Barbara zoo), then stayed on and went all the way to the other end, which was by the marina. We got off here and had a walk around, looking at the hundreds of boats and yachts. We took a few pictures and sat on a bench for a little while, just taking in the views, before going back to the shuttle stop. We were waiting a bit longer here (the waterfront shuttle apparently doesn't run as often as the downtown shuttle), but it finally arrived after about 20 minutes waiting.
We took the shuttle back down to the bottom of State Street, then transferred back onto the downtown shuttle. Whilst we were waiting for it, we noticed a pretty badass-looking dog hanging out of a car window with sunglasses on, so naturally, we got a picture. Once on the
shuttle and knowing that we wouldn't really have much time for breakfast the following day, we got off by CVS Pharmacy to see if there was anything that we could buy to eat in the morning. We had a look by the cereal bars and noticed that you could get two boxes of 'Honey Nut Cheerios' cereal bars for $5 (not the cheapest ever but none of them were!), so we got those, thinking that we could just keep the extra ones in our bags for when we needed them again. We also got some crisps to eat on the Greyhound bus (which would take over 8 hours altogether).
On the way back up to the hotel, Craig was feeling a little hungry so we popped into Quiznos and he got one of the Roadhouse Steak flatbreads that Emma had the other day. He ate most of it then decided that he wasn't too keen on it (the sauce was a bit sweet for his liking). Emma bought a cookie which she planned to eat a bit later if she got hungry (she was still quite full from dinner even though it was about 6pm).
Once we were
back to the room, we watched the usual comedy shows on TV for a while such as 'Two and a Half Men' and 'How I Met Your Mother'. Craig was still a bit hungry after his less-than-satisfying flatbread, so he ate his crisps (or what was in there anyway - see pics!) and one of his cereal bars whilst Emma ate her cookie. We packed our cases ready for in the morning, then watched a bit more TV before having a fairly early night, falling asleep by around 11pm.
