Texas
The lone star state. I am here in the beautiful town of Morro Bay, staying with my very cool Aunt Muffy and Uncle Steve, and their 4 awesome kids. Connor (21), Eliott (19), Anders (13) Grant (12). What a cool family. The trip here was rather long, but I made it without any real problems. So I will take you up to this point.
Left Chapel Hill on friday 19th, with Heather and Zena. I had posted a rideshare listing on Craigslist, and Heather said she needed to go to Palm Springs, then to Seattle, and she had some gas money, so I said sweet. Thanks for letting us crash Jimmy. We left at about 6, after waiting all darn day for another rider, who was trying to hitchhike from Wilmington, but he never called back. So we arrived in Charlotte about 830 and my folks hooked us up with some pizza and we crashed for the night. Headed out of Charlotte at about noon, after taking care of some stuff. We stopped to eat at subway, and rolled right on through South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama (War Damn Eagle!) and the put the brakes on when we got to Jackson, Mississippi. My brother Nate
Cuidad Juarez, Mexico
Just across the border in El paso, Texas. met us at the local Mc-e-d's and we headed to his nice little crash pad. Heather retired for the night and Nate and I went to throw some cards at his buddies place. It was a nice evening of hold-em with some lively betting and bluffing. Nate is a bluffing mastermind and he fooled his own blood more than once into thinking he had something going, but would throw down his popcorn fart hand after some folds went around the table.
At around 115 we decided to head out on the town. The five of us went to Blues 910, where there was a Jazz band kicking out some pretty mellow tunes. We had some tequila shots and there was some dancing and singing on stage, good times. The we had our picture taken and bought 3 framed 8.5 by 11's for 10$ a piece. Kinda gave me some ideas for making a little extra money for the road. Next we bought a case of beer and went back for some more hanging out. More good times and a lot of talk about Nate and his sweet fiance, Rachel Buck, and how they were kinda like really good for each
Palm Springs, Cali
Palm Springs, Cali. other and how they were all asking other people about each other from the very early get-go of Law School. I am proud of my bro and that Rachel sure is Lucky. We hit the hay at 430.
Got up at 11, went to Wattaburger, then to the GUN SHOW. There was a gun show, bridal show and monster truck show all in the same spot. Lots of interesting folks and cool weapons at the gun show. Bear traps, street sweepers, little 007 type pistols. There were quite a few fellas looking rather gansta, carrying around very large semiautoic weapons, it was a neat site sure, one I would love to see again one of these days!
It was great to hang with Nate in his town, but we had to keep rolling and Nate had a Trial Competition to prepare for. So we took off at about 2 pm, it was raining just a bit. We headed through Louisinia and into Texas. Stopped off a neat little Mexican joint called Chuys, where they had a lot of NFL stuff and John Madden liked to visit when he was driving through. We stopped in Dallas tp pick up some boxes,
which needed to be brought to San Diego. The stuff was Tony's and was left from a move. Carlos and I brought the boxes down and loaded the up. I took off and decided that I needed more compensation than the 100$ that Tony had offered, but Tony wouldn;t budge, so I brought the boxes back. Kinda a waste of time and gas, but whatever. We stopped at Waffle House in Benbrook Texas and our waitress was 25 and pregnant with her 6th kid. She was happy and looked pretty good. I drove until about 4, and decided to get some sleep. 36$ and 2 beds aint too bad. Slept till noon, then on the road again.
We made it to El Paso right at 530, and we caught a glimpse of Juarez, Mexico, just over the highway, big contrast from one side to the other. Then we were on into New Mexico, Arizona and finally into Cali. Pulled over and crashed for a few hours at a truck stop. On the last 2 hours of the drive, for some reason my surfboard was making all kinds of crazy noise on top of the car, and also my electrical system
Cayucas Beach
My cousin Connor after a few fish tacos. started acting up. My headlight were cutting in and out, which was no beuno. But we finally made it to Palm Springs and I crashed for a few hours.
Got up and rolled towards San Luis Obispo, met a Police Officer at a gas station and he said it was like 6 hours away, darn. Traffic kinda stunk around LA, and I ended up taking a crazy route on highway 5, highway 166 and 101. I rolled into San Luis Obispo around 4 pm and headed to Costco to get some cheap gas. I talked to the guy at the pump and he said that if I took Los Oros Valley Road that it would take me to the beach for a nice sunset. Well I kept driving and driving and all of the sudden I came upon a family of 6 taking some pictures. It was my Aunt and Uncle and their kids, and they were very surprised to see me.
So we headed back to their great house to celebrate Steve's Birthday. Drank a few beers, ate some good mexican soup, played some pool and watched some great home videos of Uncle Steve and his family from way
Chuys Mexican
Somewhere in far west Texas they cook up some sweet Mexican dishes and watch lots of football. back in the day.
Next day I went walking with the ladies and about 15 dogs. It was a great walk, and the weather here is so nice, no humidity. Later on I went surfing with Connor. Decent day, but cold as it could be. Then we ate some fish tacos, and I went home and crashed. Aunt Muffy made some great fish and muscles for dinner. We watched Clockwork Orange and hit the hay.
Today I went and bought a wetsuit for 129.99 from Wavelengths Surfshop. Uncle Steve, Connor, Elliot and I went back surfing. Much warmer than yesterday because we wore headsuits, and my wetsuit fit a lot better. I caught a few waves, but it was great seeing these guys shread, and Elliot can really rip it up. We headed to Taco de Mexico for some grub.
