Monday 7 June
This is for yesterday Monday as it is now Tues - did my photo resizing last nite so I can quickly scribble this then get out of the room before they do the fire drill in an hour! (notice under the door this morning).
Yes was usual relative “accidental tourist” wipeout in terms of things seen and done - was thinking of getting to the Golden Gate as it was likely to be clearer then - today is still partly cloudy and the temps in San fran are shall we say somewhat “brisk” - no wonder they are selling off winter stock fleeces at $10 (much better for us Sthn Hemisperans than $20 Tshirts! - and you can use them here as well). Got out of here and up Van Ness a bit to get the California St street car - but could not buy a 3 day pass ($20 for all you can eat cable cars, buses and trolleys) - given that a single cable car trip is now $5 - to catch the tourists out - you can buy a 10 trip pass for $10 for locals no doubt. Goig down the hill - rather
than across to Fishermans Wharf is fine - the guy let me ride fro free as only sold single tix and told me to go to Powell and Market to the ticket booth there. Man what a Q to get on a car there (in heart of the Union Square shopping district). On the way at least bought another (Carrera styled) pair of sunglasses - the ones I bought at night in Salinas were very yellow - but great for driving, as cuts hard blues, which was handy. A very long Q for a street car goign anywhere so I ended up at Fishermans Wharf - man what a tourist trap! At least multiple camera/gift stores that at least had good stocks of filter adapter rings for camera lens - $10, $25 or so at home! Bought another lens cap to replace a lost one - then left another at the Ferry Terminal - see night shots from there
Then the cable car up the California hill - and decided I would eat at the Moroccan place I saw the previous night. It was called Aicha - common Arabic woman’s name, also popular song by Cheb Khaled for those
yes, that place
well the sign at least into Algerian rai rappers! As got takeaway menu can tell you about - halal, so no alcohol, but apple juice. Got a vege. entree combo ($8) big dish of carrots a la chermoula, zaalook (grilled eggplant, then mashed with savoury sauce) and a tomato/red peppers cookup. Greta flavours. Then a fish tagine - salmon marinated in chermoula, with tomatoes, red onions, garlic, potatoes & mechoula peppers in paprika broth. And this was only $12 - and lovely warm spicy flavours. Well worth a $5 tip. Now tonite maybe the Persian up the street? - they say San Fran has more cafes per head than Paris after all! - all good so far.

I loved your San Francisco post and beautiful photos! Good to know about the 3 day pass vs the 10 day pass. San Fran is such an awesome city, I'm glad you're enjoying it! Near the historic ships in the harbor there is a little cafe that serves cold brewed coffee. I can't remember the name of it, so that's not very helpful, but perhaps someone in the area can tell you. It's a great little cafe and it's cheap too! My blog is looking for travel reviews, photos, etc, to share. If you have the time, check it out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com, or email me at dirtyhippiesblog@gmail.com. Continued fun on your travels! Heather :)
