There are a ton of great things to see and do in San Francisco: Chinatown, Haight-Ashbury, Alcatraz. But one is a place I never even heard of until this past weekend. Across the Golden Gate Bridge on the north side of the bay is Mt. Tamalpais in Mt. Tamalpais State Park. According to a local I stayed with Mt. Tamalpais is the tallest mountain on the north side of the bay. There you can find great hiking and mountain biking trails as well as amazing views of the bay, San Francisco and Oakland. If you're staying in the city it's a bit of a drive, but totally worth it for the views, especially if you want to get out of the city and into nature. I would suggest packing a lunch and spending at least half a day there, but it's only about a half hour drive from the bottom of the mountain and there's a walkway on which you can loop the mountain in 20 minutes to see spectacular views from all sides. If you're a nature lover like me you'll definitely want to stop by Mt. Tamalpais State Park the next time you're in San Francisco. Check out more about it at the state park website: http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=471
